I watched the Class 5 game, had no idea they were from Columbia. Did some schools break up? I knew of Rockbridge and Hickman. Where did these Battle folks come from? They seem to have some good athletes on that team. Very impressive to win a Class 5 title in the second year of football.

It's a new high school students n NE Columbia. This is their first year being eligible for the playoffs, and 2nd year of the school.

Ha they ran into Webb City, the town I currently live in. To be fair, Webb City beats Class 5 and one one of the better Class 6 team(Rockhurst) this year.

My high school is more of a soccer school being on 55, so straight shot to the soccer schools south of St. Louis.

I've mentioned this before but I played Kony Ealy in high school when he was a sophomore and I was a senior. Close game, thought they might push our poop in though.

The powers that be in Columbia dared not mess with Rock Bridge's school district so they put Battle in a place no school should ever be. But in doing so, they really messed up Hickman and almost all of the good athletes Hickman had ended up at the new school. For being a brand new school, most of their sports teams are fairly competitive however winning state is very impressive.

Is the population of Columbia growing at a fast rate, is that the reasoning behind creating a new High School. Man those athletes at Battle look like they'd make some good recruits for Mizzou. At first I thought they were from the STL area, but heard during the broadcast about the coach coming from Columbia, then going back to Columbia, I was like WTF. Had no idea they were from Columbia.

Is Hickman vs Rock Bridge still a big rivalry after the split? Where does Battle fit in rivalry wise with the other schools.

I love some Missouri high school football. Love seeing the different teams from KC, Columbia, STL, and SWMO go at at. One of these years I'm going to go to the Show me Bowl.

Columbia is growing a lot still, however both high schools were overcrowded. In addition to building a new high school, they changed the setup of grades to put 9-12 in all 3 instead of just 10-12 as it has always been. They combined the middle schools and jr highs into grades 6-8. In the end, there are now 3 high schools that have a less students. There is also a new catholic high school that opened (Tolton) that has taken some of the students as well.

Hickman / Rockbridge will always be THE rivalry in town. They are trying to get it set up where they all play each other each year but I never hear anything on the local radio about Battle (until this playoff run that is). But ya, Hickman is a total shell of a program in many sports now but especially football.

Used to go all the time, dating back to when they would have it in Arrowhead. Really a cool time. Haven't gone in a few years but did watch the CBC/Rockhurst game. Was a hell of a game. CBC's closest game all season had been like 31 points. Rockhurst lost but played them to a 7 point game.

Saw part of the Webb City game and they were dominant as always.

Yeah. It's growing pretty quickly. Around 70k in 1990 to 115k in 2013.

I would imagine the basketball situation is similar? Any information on their coach?
