It's definitely time to put some results up. Our FB program is in a tough spot and public perception is as low as it will get.

Paramount that we show progress and win some football games this year.

We definitely can be a lot better than people think. Our offense is experienced, deep, talented with a multi yr starter at QB and yr 2 under our OC. Should be one of the best in the SEC.

Defense certainly has some question mark, but getting that side of the ball to perform got Odom the job in the first place.

You know, Show Me. It's time.

4&8 35% likelihoood
5&7 60%
6&6 50%
7&5 35%
8&4 15%

These odds are based on what on its face would be a very winnable/easy schedule.

Not too surprising. Where'd we finish last year? No reason to expect any different until you show someone you can do different.

Odom and Heufel seem to think that this team looks better in practice and them being another year familiar with the schemes and system will be better.

Well that's not very probative. Not exactly going to move the betting line. What else would ANY coach be saying right about now???

I get that. Lots of hope to go around. I hope too. Some logic says we SHOULD be better too. But you're talking about rankings from media members who probably don't even know who returns and who doesn't return not just for us but for everyone else in the conference.

Nobody is surprised. Well, maybe a little surprised we were behind Vandy by a good margin.

More to the point of we have to get some positive going to break this overwhelmingly negative public perception.

Mizzou is never going to get the benefit of the doubt. They were picked fourth after 2013, but this piling on is not good for recruiting.

My prediction is we do better than last and good enough to surprise most, even if not winning the East. What will surprise Mizzou fans is that it will be led by a stellar defense and hampered by a struggling offense. Nope. Nothing on paper to suggest that this will happen other than every year we go into a season thinking one unit will excel and another will struggle, it always seems to happen in reverse.

I disagree with Mizzou finishing last in the East. I think 3rd or 4th is more accurate. I think Vandy, SC, Tennessee will all finish behind us, and the outcome of the .Kentucky game will determine if we finish 3rd or 4th.

Can't really complain we have been shite the last two years. I do see promise on the horizon though if the D can be at least half decent.

Can't really blame anyone for picking us last based on the past couple of seasons i guess. Like you said; time to show something different. This season is super important in terms of changing the impression of the program.

Unless MU starts consistently putting together classes with 7+ 4* players in them, they will never be picked higher than 3rd in the pre season.

Exactly. And I don't see that ever happening unless we consistently make New Years Six bowls.

Just think about how crazy that is though. We're stressing so much over this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get a few of these in-state recruits this year and even if we'd get most of them, we'll still barely crack the top 10 in SEC recruiting rankings. And while I get that recruiting rankings are mostly BS, that's still tricking crazy to even think about Mizzou having that much talent on a consistent basis.

The SEC is too close in most, though not all, its games to pick who will finish last out of the 6 or so teams that are "down" that year. Which doesn't even take into account the usual one "good" team that messes the bed.

Arkansas suffers one of the worst defeats in program history to Auburn, turns around and curb stomps Florida. Then y'all beat us later on when we have a big lead at half time.

Who knows what is going to happen?

This year Bama will be good. Because they have Nick Saban. LSU has a ton of talent but could be mediocre. Auburn is seen as a dark horse candidate to win it all... and the last 4-5 times they were picked for that spot they absolutely flat lined and missed a bowl game altogether.

That is just the top three teams in the West. As for the East most folks seem to be pointing at Georgia and saying... "I guess they win." Other then Vanderbilt, who I don't think has the talent to put together a full season run, is there any team in the East that you can point to and say this team can't win the division with what they have?

Missouri will be fine. You had a great coach who coached a season too long combined with a once in a lifetime social event at the university. Then you had the brand new head coach trying to rebuild the team.

There was no way those two years weren't going to be rough. We will see what y'all have in Odom after this year.

I think that Odom learns from his mistakes he made last year and the Defense will be improved.

The non-conference schedule is a joke so my expectations is 4-0.

As for SEC Play, here is my opinion on which program will be improved or regress and what kind of chance I give Mizzou to beat that team.

South Carolina (slightly improved) This may be the most important game of the season. Win here and Mizzou starts of 2-0 and has a strong possibility of heading into that Auburn game 3-0. SC will have more experience but I think Mizzou's offense will be too much for them at the end of the day. Still this one is a toss up. 50%

Auburn (improved) I heard a buzz that Auburn is over rated this year. I won't believe that until I see proof that says otherwise. Auburn will probably come into this game 2-1 (Loss to Clemson) and will be looking to get their 1st conference win. 30%

@ Kentucky (same as 2016) I don't think UK will be much different than last year. I'll give them the edge since they have home field advantage and Mizzou didn't win any road games last year. 45%

@Georgia (improved) If the last two years are any indication then this one could be another close one so I can't count Mizzou out. 35%

Florida (same) While the media is on the UGA hype train I'm picking The Gators to 3-peat. I don't think it will be quite the blow out that last year was but I don't give Mizzou much of a chance. 25%

Tennessee (decline) Tennessee is losing a lot of pieces and Mizzou has a history of doing well against the Vols. 40%

@Vanderbilt (slighty improved) It's Vandy, but they have surprised Missou in the past. 60%

@Arkansas (decline) Mizzou beat a better Hogs team last season. I think they pick up a much needed road win and end the season on another high note. 55%

I see no reason Mizzou can't go 7-5 or 8-4 if they get a surprise win or two. Like it's already been stated, the team's success this season hinges on the Defense.

There is plenty to stress about in this class. Haley and Ford/Hill landing Parker, Trout, Thompson, and Perkins to go with Williams, Byers and Elliott would give Haley a room with talent comparable to either of his previous two stops. Win games with these guys in the stands and it all comes together.

Wow, that is some higher level optimism there. That's good, stay strong.
