Positives

- Locktember!! Great to see his confidence and accuracy.
- Loved the running of Crockett. Breaking tackles and knocking people on their arse.
- The explosiveness of Jonathon Johnson was breathtaking.
- Two impressive games thus far for a new grass OLine. I love that Heupel is using TEs in pass protection.

Negatives

- I'm sure there's an end game and learning curve with this new DL philosophy, but the overall lack of defensive line pressure is going to get us destroyed in early SEC play. Not to mention the possible end of DLineZou as a magnet to draw DL recruits. At this point I'm hoping it gels by mid-season to at least salvage the perception of Mizzou as D-Line factory.
- Speaking of salvage, two more missed XPs? Who would have thought Andrew Baggett was Ol' Reliable?

We get it, you don't like the D.

Thanks for stepping into every fricking post to make that point. Job well done!

positives I would add Strong looked strong when he carried. Could be the red zone back we've been hoping for. The WR and TE in general looked big time

freshman kicker has all kinds of leg. Seems to have been psyched out but he got a lot of kicks and got it together. I think he's going to be a good one

Negatives; Lock runs like a girl. No pressure by the DL again which will kill us in the SEC. Team had no fire early and had stupid penalties (ala WV) but once the offense started having success that got better. Running game is still iffy (EMU ran with more success).

I'm sorry you are ok with the crap on the field. Offense looks good. Get rid of Witter and it could improve a lot

They didn't rape Nicholls. Why will they rape us?

They didn't though. They scored 26 and 21 points. Not great, but enough to keep us in the game. If we keep Georgia in the 20s we have a good chance to win

I'll agree with second part but the yards we gave up on the ground with no pressure Is an issue. Also they forgot how to tackle

They need to play better, no doubt. It's concerning and surprising that they haven't been better.

I worried all offseason about changing the scheme. Why? There was no reason for it and our DC became HC.

But we did, and it looks like they are having a tough time playing within it. Hopefully that improves.

Surprising is right.... They just look confused most of the time......... To take a top 10 defense, only to change everything, is just as confusing to me.... Obviously the players are having a hard time adapting... They didn't look any better last night.

Now as far as the offense goes... 2 games in..... Definitely plenty to smile about.

After 2 games we are 9th in passing, 75th in rushing, and tied for 48th in points allowed

BTW Nice to see you post this. Seems when others call out the D, they catch hell.

The Defense isn't as bad as everyone thinks it is.

Let's chill out a little on it.
There were a few breakdowns in coverage.
It wasn't that bad.

All of this. Supposedly, this new scheme will be better against the run. It hasn't worked so far, against teams without good ground games. The defense looks sluggish and lost - like they're thinking too much - and they're missing tackles. Way too reminiscent of that Steckel prevent scheme that I hated.

However, I'm pleased with how the offense looked. Lock needed this game. I think last year messed with his head - how could it not? He needed a big confidence boost, to help both his play and his leadership. He got it. The young receivers showed they can catch balls, so that's an improvement. And the ground game looked better. (Again, against EMU, but this was the 1st game tuneup we needed. We weren't ready to play WVU week 1 - we play that game in week 6, you might see different results.) The OL has been a pleasant surprise. They protected Lock well last night, and did a good job of opening lanes. Nice to see.

I wouldn't say WVU doesn't have a good run game. The top RB for them last year led the Big 12 in rushing. But Mizzou probably should have been better against EMU.

OL gets a shout out this week. EXCELLENT pass protection, Its amazing how much better they are in run blocking with Crockett running the ball. I think Crockett earns the start against UGA.

No DL pressure as mentioned, LBs are out of position and can't tackle. Secondary not the sure tacklers we've seen in the past. Burkett is not a starting SEC LB. I would rather see Terez out there. He's athletic enough to make up for his mistakes and he is a good tackler. Former 4 star Lee is not stepping up either.

I wonder if BO is trying to prove his brilliance with all the different looks and philosophy instead of just mastering one defense and executing at a high level. Kul only had 1 philosophy, but he taught it very well. IMO, we would be better off keeping it simple, but having flawless execution.

I agree on the defense. While I tried to stay positive in the offseason, my head was scratching in spring ball. It makes no sense to have a skinny Joey Burkett in the box and a 240 pound Newsom covering the slot man-to-man. WVU and EMU both picked him apart, and UGA's Isaiah McKenzie would scorch him. I don't get why they won't a.) switch Burkett/Newsom and/or b.) get a nickel defense.

Another head scratcher is that we're playing so much 2-Read coverage. Gary Patterson is the mastermind behind 2-Read, and it is the soundest every-down pass coverage you can find. Works great in the Big 12. But the negatives are that it can leave you with a 4-1 box.

Our DL has a lot of pressure being put upon them to stop the run in a 4-1 defense, so I'm not overreacting to their lack of production. Harris actually played really good last night, he just didn't come in much from what I saw. Lack of stats doesn't exactly mean they aren't doing their jobs.

But why is Odom, who still seems like an inexperienced DC, handing the keys to another inexperienced DeMontie Cross and letting him change everything? Odom is too young to have the CEO role and Cross is doing everything he can to defend spread and not the UGAs and LSUs out there.

Either way, I can't wait to skullfrick UGA

I don't think that Blue coverage is the issue. I think that Joey Burkett being the BRC in this defense is the issue.
