Seems like the CoMo Popo has issue with college kids. I wonder how many non athletes get ticketed daily?

I applaud CoMO Police for no nonsense policing. These are students, nothing more, nothing less. Don't be FSU,OU,Bama fans.

Also, stop dick riding teenagers, it's sick and creepy.

Lane violations is not a reason any police officer should make a stop.

More than likely this is a case of racial profiling.

I'm disappointed to read a racial profiling comment tied to this story. I'm crazy excited about MU hoops this year, but police can't ignore a MIP. I'm sure lots of kids got them the same weekend (of multiple races), but since they're not headline D1 athletes, they won't make the front page.

As for Tillmon, he made a simple mistake. I was in college once (and High School for that matter), and like almost everyone else I knew, I wasn't waiting until I was 21 to drink beer. So I'm not going to say he's a bad kid. He just took a gamble with a bad decision like everyone else does and got caught. It wasn't the cops fault. They're just doing their job. If they had given a white frat kid a MIP and ignored Tillmon, we'd get bad press for that too as MU's athletes being allowed to circumvent the law.

Hopefully after this he realizes that he has more at stake than the average MU student and is smarter about his decisions. I also hope Cuonzo mentors him about this and he can move on as a learning experience.

I hate to say he should just get the proverbial slap on the wrist, but I think that's about all that's warranted here, along with a serious conversation about him representing MU better in the future.

I got an MIP when I was a student in Columbia. I'm white for what it's worth. I was not a scholarship athlete either.

Did you get pulled over for a lane violation?

The bogus traffic violation is where profiling happens.

If at twenty to two in the morning, I make a lane violation...I'll bet your arse I'd be stopped, too.

Kid fricked up driving and boozing, plain and simple. Yeah, we all did, but let's not be making him a poor victim, fercrissakes.

No one asked them to ignore a MIP.

Lane violations are usually bullshite. Don't try to sell something else.

At least it's not another FB player. These kids need to learn about decision making and weighing risks.

My guess...there was no improper lane change. That's an easy enough claim to bullshite as a pretense for looking for drugs/alcohol. Happens all the time. I don't know about racial profiling. I think it happens plenty to everyone.

What the hell happened to the days when it was punishment enough for the cop to pour it all out in front of you? I guess those days ended when cops realized they were wasting good beer instead taking it home.

I think times have changed, especially when alcohol or drugs are in any respect associated with driving. Since the MADD movement car & alcohol together offenses are viewed & treated much more harshly.

I am almost certain most reasonable POs would simply follow the old "pour out punishment" if they came across a minor tossing a beer while enjoying themselves in a park or similiar scenario.Of course some cops could still be an arse and ticket you).

Also, not to defend this cop (as no one here knows the total true facts) he or she could lose a career if they were to let the subject go and they subsequently got into a tragic accident, even if they may have appeared to pass a sobriety check. Imagine explaining to your OIC that you found alcohol in the car but decided it was okay to let the person continue driving. Also, imagine the city attorney having to possibly defend a suit from a subsequent accident victim or god forbid a remaining family member.

Just food for thought as things are not always black & white.(No pun intended)

frick the CoMo police. They're a bunch of assholes. MiP or not, I call shenanigans on lane violations.

Friends and I got pulled over once for "straddling the lane divider" outside Campus Lodge. Which is I guess a "Lane violation".

Also got busted for a supposed dead taillight. Which was also BS as it was working just fine the next day when my friend when to get a new bulb.

That entire department is corrupt.

I remember a time myself and a few buddies were throwing a party in a field out on the backroads. My friend had a fake ID and everyone gave him money for beer. We had over 200 bottles of bud in the back of his Bronco. Pulled over and the cop made us open, and pour out every last one.

Bummer. Showed up at the party, collected more money and went and bought another truck load. Times have changed.
