AND.............they just keep coming. Everyone but Cain with a hit tonight. I think they are getting their groove back. Moose is just solid. Hoz,Esky, Sal and Omar are heating up.
Whats scary (for other teams) is I don't think the Royals have hit their peak yet. They seem to be just maintaining, which is good. Maybe they're saving the intensity for post season if they make it back this year. The weak spot right now is Guthrie and Vargas. Let's hope they can start finding their games.
The Yankees are really looking good. Detroit as usual looking good. Anyone else besides us I miss?

Good. Lord. This team
Starting pitching might be a little worse than last year but the defense is keeping pace and the offense is a lot better. Best record in the American League

I'm sorry. But, MLB needs to step in and do it right now to curb these pitchers. Esky hit in the head last night. That's 20 batters hit so far this year. Two of which were in the head and two have lost playing time. Rios is still out and now Esky may miss games depending on evaluation. This crap has to stop. This goes beyond accidental hit babattersI said it once and I'll say it again. Kazmir should have been tossed when he hit Moose in the head, Salazar should have been tossed last night after hitting Esky. It's the only way this shite will stop, when opposing teams start losing starting pitchers to suspensions and getting ejections. Royals are not being allowed to levy these hit batters without suspension. It needs to be a two way street.

How much did James Shields want??? I know the Royals had the money to pay his arse. Should always keep your good pitchers.

Huge early season series starting tonight. Be nice to see the Royals make a statement against Detroit. Force people to recognize this team.

They definitely answered the bell last night 8-1 was a pretty sweet score. I believe the Royals started 0-5 against Detroit to start the season and went something like 2-8 against Detroit at the K.
Good to see the Royals setting the tone.

That 420 ft 2 run homer from Hoz was awesome. Wveryonevhad a hit, Duffy pitching great. Was a good game.
I didn't get what Cabrerra was going at his first at bat. Calling for the check swings himself. I think he was kidding with Salvy.

How much longer will Yost stay with Guthrie? He started out today ok. But was it just one of those days where the hitting was just better than the pitching? He seemed to be hitting his spots better today, but the Tigers were keying in on those spots.
I'm waiting for Vargas's next outing. But he is another that seems to be losing the ability to get batters off balance.

I am noticing something.
I'm not meaning to sound like I have a big head here, but does it seem to others that teams are starting to pattern themselves after the Royals style of play including adding those types of players?

Its more the post steroid era than anything else IMO. The game has changed. Emphasis on defense, speed and pitching.

I see it more like a media driven thing. They were talking about how well KC plays small ball better than anyone. It was constantly talked about last year towards post season. It was really driven home during the playoffs and WS also.
It appealed to some teams to the point they started styling their teams around small ball and a solid bullpen. Get on base, run bases well (speed), steal bases to get into scoring position and tag singles or doubles to score and try to be ahead by the 4th or 5th inning, then let the bullpen lock it down after the 6th or 7th.

Well, teams had already started to move in that direction but the Royals splash last year brought to light in the mainstream the changes occurring in MLB. Make no mistake, the steroid era was real and moving on from that has brought baseball back into more harmony between the fundamentals of the game.
I like it, its good for the game. For too long it was sit back an wait for roided up mashers to drive in runs. Its the way baseball is meant to be with balance between all facets of the game being important.

Yeah, but as hot as y'all are it doesn't hurt to keep riding the wave. Even when the pitching sputtered the offense has picked them up like tonight

We need to solve the Guthrie problem. We can't keep sending him out. I heard somewhere that they were going to give him about 2 more games, which for Yost probably means 4 or 5 more starts before doing anything.
Just have to keep in mind that we lost the central last year by a single game. It is looking like even one game might just decide the division again, so I hope that Yost has the right balance of loyalty v. what is best for this team as a unit.

Duffy pitched tonight, not Guthrie. But I'm not willing to pull the plug on Guthrie yet. One, maybe two more starts until I consider that.
With that being said, it was Duffy tonight who shite the bed. He made it through 1 inning and allowed 4 runs with 2 men on base and no outs before Yost yanked him. I'll admit I've never been a Duffy fan, but he's my biggest concern in our rotation. Throws too many pitches, inconsistent, he's a bit of a head case.

The ups and downs of a season. But I think Duffy looked bad. He wasn't the only pitcher to look like crap. I see why Finnigan isn't in the startig rotation. Strong two innings and then flatlined. Morales same thing.

My post was prior to the game last night.
I don't have any issues with Duffy. I think he just didn't have command, AT ALL. His stuff was there. Guthrie needs to be on a short leash though. Here is a pretty decent link that documents his struggles.
