Teams are supposed to get better as the season progresses

If a team gets worse, usually that indicates the coaching staff lost the team.
It's amazing that Mizzou nearly beat (and should've beaten) Georgia just weeks ago, but now they've clearly given up and can't even beat Middle Tennessee.
Actually, let me clarify. The offense is still putting up solid numbers. It's the defense which has given up.
The defense. THE DEFENSE! THE SAME PLAYERS WHO PLAYED ON A TOP 5 DEFENSE LAST YEAR!!!
Did you ever think in your wildest dreams that our defense (or lack of it) would be responsible for a terrible season? Or, rather, we should direct the criticism to the appropriate place - the coaching staff - did you ever think the man who was celebrated as the mastermind behind last year's impressive defense would be the same man who would destroy Mizzou's nearly legendary defense?
It's actually an incredible accomplishment! One which defies logic.

Fire Barry Odom! Interim head coach now!!! Put Heupel in charge.
ETA: I don't actually expect this to happen anytime soon. I'm still melting.

Yeah. We lost a ton of talent to the NFL and with five wins Arkansas is melting like we have only won one or two. A bad loss, or two, takes it out of you.
My concern, going forward with Mizzou (lets not get started on my concerns for Arkansas), is that you are mixing an under performing hurry up offense with a defense learning a new system.
Not only are they a bit lost, which will happen, but they keep getting thrown out onto the field over and over again. Either you slow down the offense to give the defense time to breathe on the sideline or your go back to a defense they are comfortable with.
And then you loan us some decent linebackers if you have any. Please.

Great point, which makes the coaching decisions this season even more absurd than I originally believed.

Watching the Mizzou defense regress has been a head scratcher. I don't understand what's gone wrong. It appears the kids aren't playing for their coach. Either Odom or the DC and I hope I am wrong in that assessment.

People need to stop pretending Odom inherited a bad team.
Mizzou is not, nor has been a bad team. However, the coaching staff decisions are making Mizzou a bad team.

Both. 2015's 5-7 was bad. 2015's O was real bad. 2016's D is bad. This is all on Pinkel, his boys.

Yes & no....IMO you see improvement then the team regresses because they think "they got it" but relax mentally. At this point in the season we should see less of this and more sustained improvement.

If they haven't learned the scheme by week 7 they aren't going to. This is a completely lost season at this point. Only bright spot is the ENTIRE offense returns next year.
