Kids in St. Louis love their soccer. I can see it happening.

MLS announced tonight that they are expanding by 4 teams by 2020. I know STL is interested...what is the outlook on their chances?
Slim to none unless a big money man steps up. Apparently being a millionaire 10's or 100's of times over isn't enough. Got to be a billionaire.

An MLS team in St louis is a no brainer as far as fan support would be concerned. Just need an owner to step up.
Rumblings are that Stan Kroneke wants an MLS franchise and a soccer specific facility as part of a sports complex around his new football stadium in St louis.
49k+ @ Busch for an exhibition between two teams from the EPL. Sold out in 45 mins.

7 loses in a row for the Redbirds.
I dont think the freefall ends for a while. Reality is racing up to great the Cards who have feasted of an easy schedule and unsustainable timely hitting with RISP.
9 Homers as a team in July...

The kids do but not even Pujols in his hey day had enough swag to bring a team. Jeff Cooper had a number of millionaire investors lined up and it just wasn't enough. I would say maybe Kroenke would want to own another franchise, but I think he already owns an MLS team, maybe in Colorado like all his other teams.

I'm not convinced, but could be wrong. STL was a soccer hotbed 2 decades ago. KC is a much bigger hotbed these days. They did sell out but those are rare teams coming in and would sell out anywhere there's interest. It certainly helps STL's chances, but the women's pro team had ZERO support, despite having Hope Solo, the US national team's goalie.
I think Kroenke owns the Colorado Rapids in the MLS. I don't know if their rules prohibit owning another team and even if they don't, I can't imagine he'd want to own 2 MLS teams, much less a 3rd soccer team.

Unfortunately, I think you're right. What's crazy is I thought it would be the pitching that would give out with the youth.
Holliday was 3-5 with 2 RBI's and a run scored. Hopefully he breaks loose.

--KC wasnt a "soccer hotbed" up to 2009-2010, at least as far as professional soccer is concerned. They were lucky to draw 3k to Wizards games. Now they draw 18k and have sold out 27 straight games after a rebranding and building a soccer specific stadium. St louis still produces some of the best soccer talent in the country. St Louis blows away every other area of the country as far as percentages of youth participation compared to population. Its not where it was but it IS still one of the core areas for soccer in the United States.
--The womens pro team and AC St louis have no bearing at all on how an MLS team would draw. Jeff Cooper was and is a clown.
--Kroenke can own another franchise.

Me too. Its bizarre isnt it?
I dont think the Pirates last though. Birds can still take the Division but the bats are going to have to get back to where they were before this homestand or we will need to start going yard more to make up for the lack of run production.

True about KC on the professional level. Their youth soccer surpassed STL and I think remains that way, though it's not by much. I never looked at it in comparison to population, I just know California, Texas, Chicago, a handful of midwestern and southeastern states have surpassed us, though if in comparison to population, like you said, I would put STL up against anyone.
Cooper was just a fan who made money as a lawyer and thought he could play with the big boys. I hope you're right about the lack of support not being a factor but I'm concerned the MLS would consider it.
Good to hear about Kroenke. He's the best bet.

I said they'd fold early on. But the more I watch them, the more I think they're the real deal.
Kind of surprised they made no moves. Not sure what kind of message that sends the team either.

I just don't think support for a women's team and a 2nd/3rd tier pro League that had no marketing what so ever is a good gauge for how well an MLS team would draw.
STL and KC are great, great soccer areas. It takes the right venue and the right marketing to make things work right for an MLS franchise right now. If St Louis can find an owner that is willing to build the stadium and invest in the marketing it will do well in St Louis in my opinion.

Well, compared to selling every deadline it tells them they have a chance.

The AC St. Louis doesn't concern me as much as the woman's team. And that wouldn't concern me if there just wasn't zero support. My son would have games down at the complex that had more fans than their games.

I did not realize that in just over a month we play the Pirates 14 times and the Reds 10 times. I knew we had a tougher schedule ahead and new we had a lot of Central games coming up but had no idea we played those 2 teams 24 times in the course of what...35 days or so? August is absolutely huge, obviously.

It's the year of no more excuses for Bradford. For the most part, they've got him a line. They got him wide receivers. Only thing missing I suppose is a proven running threat. Hope that doesn't come back to haunt them.

Yea me too reedus. I know part of SJ39 leaving was to free up cap space but it would be very frustrating if the running game is what held the Rams back this year.
