Just figured we could have a thread for those of us on the other side of the state as well.
I suppose the upside to a Cardinal loss is the fact that a Mizzou boy helped in getting the win. Anyone think they'll send Lyons down now? That's a couple of rough outings in a row. I think I would and frankly I'd probably give Kelly a shot in the rotation.

I'd send Lyons down. He's not ready yet. Wacha was more ready than Lyons, and he had things to work on too. I'd have no problem giving Kelly a shot. Hopefully they can get Wacha a little more work in Memphis and have him back in a few weeks, at least by August.
My little nephew went to the game last night. His grandpa (a baseball coach) pulled some strings and got him a trip down to the field during batting practice, as well as a visit to the broadcast booth. He got his pic taken, wearing headphones, with the Fox broadcast team. Talk about a kid on cloud 9!!

Oh I bet he had a blast.
Cards had another tough one tonight. Gotta get the bats going a bit. 2 runs won't cut it against a team that hits like the Rangers.

trade Holliday, keep Beltran.

How many years left on his contract and isn't Holliday's contract too big? I don't think I'd trade him. The team has one of the best records in the big leagues. Just a tough game.

This. Also we have Oscar Tavares up and coming Beltran won't be resigned next year IMO unless the national league adopts the DH

Nothing to do with a tough game.
Everything to do with the fact he can't play LF, and is a caveman at the plate.
Holliday in review:
Acquired 09 - proceeds to drop ball in left, ending Cards playoff run.
'10 - Had a lot of big hits on Tuesdays.
'11 - Taken off the WS roster for game 7 bc he was hurting the team. Blamed it on a pinky, but was playing basketball on tv 1 day later.
Guy is not clutch, he's a cavemen that only knows 1 approach, can't play the field. Would much rather get rid of him, keep Beltran and move Taveras up next year. Holliday is so unimportant it's comical. Even Craig could be the franchises LFer with Adams at 1st. He's our highest paid player, he's one dimensional, and he's really not that great of a leader.
But, trading him will never happen.

Amen brother. Never been a fan of this guy, dead on about the one approach point.

That gif, hahahaha

That gif makes me sad.
And I hope they keep Freese.

Me too. But reality is Freese will probably not be a Cardinal for the long.
Wong will take over at 2nd base, they will probably keep M Carpenter and put him back at 3b.

I'm a big David Freese fan. But I also thought if we were going to lose him, then they should have traded him after winning the World Series. Didn't think his value would ever get any higher than it was then. I realize that's kind of cold hearted and goes against what a lot of fans would want.

There wasn't anyone to replace him after the WS, and he was far from becoming a free agent. Would have been real dumb to trade him then.
There is a reason we only gave him a 1 year deal instead of locking him up for 4-5. He is going to get a big bump in arbitration this year, a lot of ppl think he's gone after this year, he definitely won't be extended when he becomes a free agent in a couple years.

Carpenter was up in 2012.
I agree he's gone after this year.

Carpenter hadn't emerged as a full time player at that point.. Plus Freese was still cost controlled then. I guess there is a small chance he is back next year, doubt it, but we'll see.

You're right, not at that point, though one could argue neither had Freese. In his 3rd season in 2011, I don't think he played in 100 games. He had shown the potential but kept fighting one injury after another.
At this point, I'd love to keep him around but I just don't see it either. He went to my wife's high school.

Bradley Beal and now Otto Porter in Washington.. too bad neither came to MU (thanks, Suitcase Mike)
Posted on 6/27/13 at 7:01 pm to svb
In fairness, Otto was from Sikeston. McLemore was another of the copious amounts of talent from St. Louis that spurned Mizzou though.

There is more talent coming through STL in the near future too. Hopefully Haith and company have more success in building relationships there. Jayson Tatum of the 2016 class already has offers from the likes of kU, UK, UF, Ill, and Mizzou. Would be a huge get. While he's at Chaminade, his dad just got the HC job at CBC (cough new MU asst cough). CBC has a solid kid coming out this year, Jordan Barnett. Go hard after Barnett, build that relationship with Tatum and hopefully carry that over to his son.
