While I certainly don't know the revenue figures, FB ticket sales have slumped (no surprise) and I'd have to guess that licensing dollars are down (less interest= less Mizzou-licensed merchandise sold).

If BO is kept for year 3, interest will have to be down even further next year.

So how much will declining dollars trump Sterk's give-the-guy-some-time decision to keep BO for another year?

That depends on how the season ends. If Mizzou goes 3-9 BO should be gone, as interest will be down even more. But if Mizzou closes out the season winning 4 of the last 6, then interest will be elevated.

I hate to say it but BO will probably be back next year. Uconn and Idaho are wins. I don't care how bad we've looked. They've looked even worse. All Odom has to do is squeek out a win against a bad Vandy or Arkansas team.

I want Barry Odom back next year. He is the person to rebuild this program.

If Sterk pulls the trigger, this will be why he won't go after a Mid-major HC or maybe even an up-and-coming DC/OC as HC.

To get fans back in the seats, he'll need to energize the program with known commodity to breath new life.

If BO is gone after this year, the next hire has to be dead on home run...looking at another Cuonzo type contract. I'm not sure who you go after, but SEC experience would be helpful.

The brutal tale of the data.

Season Ticket Sales

2011: 25,768 public, 11,253 students

2012: 32,104 public, 11,792 students

2013: 29,849 public, 9,905 students

2014: 31,077 public, 10,562 students

2015: 32,375 public, 10,001 students

2016: 27,321 public, 6,781 students

2017 (not final): 22,919 public, 4,856 students (as of 8/17)

From just 2016 (which was the lowest figure since 2011) that’s a 16% drop in public season tickets and 28% drop in student season tickets (embarrassingly low).

I’d expect that the 2017 numbers inched up between 8/17 and the start of the season. But that’s a “get your arse fired” drop in ticket sales. And that’s your faithful base. Not your fair weather walk off the street joes.

Strong is not happy at USF. Rated #16 and only 25k in the stands.

A lot of the drop in tickets from 2015 have more to do with the 2015 protests. Those people won’t be coming back until Mizzou puts together a couple 10 win seasons in a row.

BO will have to get to 6 wins this year, or ticket sales will go down more in 2018.

My fear, another period like the Bab's Years.

What elite or even high-potential recruits will want to play for a lame-duck coach? Good players with good coaching will dig this program out of the ditch, that's the only way.

I'm done with Odom ball. I don't see any conference wins. I hope Sterk cans him with 5 or less wins. Just my opinion. 5 wins is a gray area and I bet he would come back in '18.

There was 55K at South Carolina, Strong's name bumps that 10K or so. Also gives Mizzou a real shot and the in state recruits. Ole Miss is rumored to be kicking the tires.

Oh BS. If Mauk hadn't gone off the deep end and we had won 7-8 games GPs last year and gone into Odom with a more prepared Lock and better D planning/coaching, tickets wouldn't have plummeted so far.

That’s a lot of ifs. None of which happened.

The protest has had a major impact on the university. Attendance is way down as a result of it. So it didn’t just impact the football team.

Then we don't need to fire Odom. Hiring some retread like Les Miles or the like would set us even further back. That said, I have faith that Sterk won't make a poor decision like that. He'll hire the "right guy" regardless of background or if the casual fan gets excited about it. Wins will get them excited.

To answer the OP's question though, empty stadiums will ultimately be Odom's downfall. Even if he anted to keep him I don't see how he can justify it, barring a very strong finish.

Strong would be a big time hire...immediately quells the negative recruiting from other coaches with regards to the 2015 protests...couldn't win at TX but great at Louisville and so far great at USF. From north central Arkansas...not sure if that would be important or not, but not too far from COMO.

That’s exactly what pumpers say. Would our attendance be better this year if we were 4-1?

Better yes, but not better than pre-protest numbers. It’s gong to take some really good seasons to get the people that left because of the protest to come back.
