Missouri

“You don’t look at them anywhere and go, these guys really frighten me, but they can give you problems when they get in that three-down defense, especially if you’re a spread team."

"Their corners are really bad. If you can’t run the ball on them, it didn’t matter because you could just chuck it."

"They’ve had some very good linebackers the last few years, and I don’t know if they’ve got a kid there now who can continuously make those kinds of plays. They need someone who can make tackles."

"The Terry Beckner kid at nose is a problem in first and second down, and if you’ve got him matched up on a center, good luck because he’s quick and big and can decide how he wants to play it. Now on third down — when they take him out of the game — they need someone else who can rush the passer."

"(Barry) Odom called the defense later in the season and there was a noticeable change in the packages and the way they presented themselves. He moves the pieces around on third down that makes ID difficult."

"Now, it may not matter what they’re like on defense because they’re the only team in our league running Baylor’s offense. They don’t throw it down the field as much as Baylor, which I don’t get because they have receivers who can fly. Drew Lock isn’t the most accurate down the field, but he can spin it."

"Their offense makes coordinators uncomfortable in this league. The splits they get at receiver, you have to make decisions."

Meh. I think MIZ could surprise some teams overlooking them this year. I think we'll see some improvement on D. Not sure how much, but enough to win a few more games and give some of these coaches some headaches

And its also very much an unknown at this point. I'm sure that this is a focus area, but what isn't based on last year's D. I'm just hoping that we have something serviceable at this point, and that the D-line can be disruptive. Hopefully that combination will keep opposing offenses honest.

Could be, but they were referring to last year.

Frazier and Beckner have to play beside each other IMO. You force the help to the right side of the line and give Williams/Anderson a one on one with A and B gap blitz options. The competition at NG is something to keep track of as well. I like Logan as a space eater but the question is can he be disruptive when he gets the center one on one. He had a solid Fr year and but he disappeared the last 5 games of the season. Utsey and Whiteside could both earn significant reps

The answer on the CBs was lazy.

The answer on the CBs was dwarfism and they couldn't tackle.

Our secondary is terrible, I don't see that changing this year. Lots of shootouts in our future.

I'd honestly rather be known as a team that is shaky in the secondary and tough up front than vice versa. When you're controlling the LOS and affecting the QB, DBs look a lot better.

I do believe though that Safeties are among the most important spots in a 2-High defense, so that is obviously concerning. As long as they can at least make routine tackles, we won't be in shootouts.

n my opinion tackling is the problem with this defense. If they do not wrap up and tackle it will be a long year.

No doubt. Probably the #1 problem last year followed by LB.

The offense is fun to watch but completely stresses the defense when it doesn't click.

Turnover creation was also another glaring deficiency, epsecially compared to the Pinkel era.

Kind of an odd statement, considering Penton was 1st team SEC last season.

Safety's weren't good

Right. I mean the whole defense sucked for the most part last year, but Penton is looking like he has a shot to start for the Rams as a rookie.

He doesn't suck.

We'll see I guess. I like Acy and Holmes. We haven't had that kind of length back there since...well, ever.

Not sure what we have behind them though.

I do like that Holmes has moved ahead of Cheadle. Hopefully, that means he is starting to break out.

More concerned about the safeties reading the release of the #2 WR on a RPO than I am the CBs maintaining inside leverage. They ran Cover 2 during the spring game but I think we will see more Cover3/Read 2 and let Prewett and Sherrills be the run force.

Sherrills is terrible. Hilton is inexperienced.

I'd be shocked if we dont rank in the bottom of the league defensively again this year. We're going to have to simply put up 30-40 points a game.
