These are a few schools that are not known as bluebloods and they all recruit on the same level as Mizzou except with better results on the field. Maybe they aren't young teams like Mizzou, I don't know.

Even though all these teams are ranked higher than Mizzou for 2017 recruits it's only because they have more commits. Why is Mizzou so talent stricken? Could coaching play a part in this? Is it youth or a combination of a few of these things?

Here's the 2017 recruit list of a few of these teams:

Houston

Memphis

I don't know why I continue to be amazed by such irrational stupidity.

Mizzou has a lot of young talent right now.

They need to prove program stability.

Recruits are looking at our new schemes and how they fit into them.

Multiple reasons why we're moving slow for the '17 class.

Memphis has 9 two star commits. That would never be acceptable at Mizzou.

Louisville is a one man show. Yes, a crazy, unbelievable, magical, one man show.

The instate class sucks this year. That's the major reason.

Beyond that, teams that recruit like we do have big ups and downs. If you have a good coach, you can consistently be decent and every now and again make a run.

Just like we did with Pinkel. Hopefully Odom proves to be as good.

West Virginia has a better history than us.

The rest of those teams weren't shite 10 years ago, were they?

They are built around their current coaches.

no SEC teams. Imma so surprised.

three P5 teams.

non of them would come close to winning the SEC and they are having program defining seasons.

Is this what you are aiming for? Will you be happy with that?

If so just hang tight. We will back to that level or near it next year. With a few breaks and because the east is so soft right now we could even get to the SECCG. Where we will get slaughtered.

In a very good year we have a half dozen guys that could start for the sec conf champ. we ain't gonna scheme or develop our way past that.

So better results this year than Mizzou, but not better over the last 10 years.

Mizzou for years have been recruiting the south. They need to start recruiting Chicago. Most of the teams recruiting that area are in the Big1G. SEC teams rarely recruit the area.

If you're comparing us to those teams, its just a matter of timing with some key players and a new coaching staff. None of those teams are going to win shite as far as games that matter in January. AKA Playoffs. If you want to make and win the playoffs you need to start comparing to the blue bloods. The rest of us will just a good years a bit more than 50% of the time. Including all of those teams you listed.

We need a team heavy in juniors and seniors to compete well in the SEC. Get the 3 stars, coach them up, and hope they are good as upper class men. Missouri will never recruit like a blue blood. If they do sanctions will not be far behind.

Having a stable coaching staff is a must. Barry Odom and company are new. Give them time. They know the Gary Pinkel way of recruiting for speed, size, strength, and quickness. Then teaching them to be football players. A coach at a school with more prestige cannot do that without getting fired. Maybe the in-state high school coaches could be more involved in finding these guys that are young and just need a few years to grow.

It can be done here so long as results on the field bear fruit in 2 or 3 years. If Barry Odom turns out to be good, there is nothing to prevent a blue blood from hiring him away either.

You can't get tied up in star counting. Mizsou's philosophy has been recruit. They do what they do.

Wow. This post got all screwed up.

What I was saying is Mizzou recruits to develop. This doesn't necessarily translatw well in a conference that recruits high ranking recruits who are steps ahead of our recruits as soon as they step on campus. Our recruits primarily need some development. Not all, but most.

We need to recruit fast/athletic underweight and undersized DE's. Develop the DE's into LB's that will help close the gap's and take down big and fast RB's.

Recruit underrated fast and quick WR's. Develop these into CB's and safeties.

Getting are defense off the field will help them stay fresh. It will also help tired out the defense of the other team.

A good defense is a good offense.

There is 51 3* and above in Illinois. Some of the recruits are in the St. Louis metro area, but most are in the Chicago metro area.

We need a recruiter that can convince the players and their families that the SEC is the best. They also need to be convinced Mizzou is the place they will get to play.

Being in the SEC should help us recruit these players that we couldn't get when we were in the Big 12.

How many in the Texas? Or Florida? Or Georgia?
My guess is that there's a reason those 3 states have coaches assigned to recruit them.

Mizzou has a coaching staff that is full of coaches that have experience of recruiting in Texas. Some of the staff have recruiting experience in southern states.

The trouble with recruiting in Texas, Georgia, and Florida is that every team in the SEC recruit in these states.

We need to recruit in areas that SEC teams don't recruit heavy and don't have relationships with high school coaches.

The only challenge with the SEC and Illinois is somehow Ole Miss got into Illinois. Don't know when it started but they are there big time.

I actually like your idea of recruiting undersized WDE and converting them the LB's. Then BO would have LBs with the size to maintain gap integrity while taking on pulling guards and FB's. There should be plenty of athletic WDE that are 3 stars because they are only 6'2" in Texas, Georgia and Florida.
