Just got home from the game...these guys are going to be way more enjoyable to watch. Yeah it's just one exhibition game vs Missouri Western, but I'm gonna let my overreactions run wild.

These players are much more likable than last year, and have a much better energy to them. The guys on the bench are having fun and supporting their teammates, and even the suspended guys Namon Wright and DeAngello Allen were being supportive and cheering for their teammates. After the game, most of the players came over and went through the student section giving high fives and thanking everyone for coming.

KJ Walton is exciting, Russell Woods looks like a solid big man, and Wes Clark is back. Terrance Philips is a relentless defender and Cullen Van Lear can stroke from mid and deep range.

We won 92-53. Mizzou basketball hasn't scored 92 points in a game (exhibition or regular season) since NBA players Jabari Brown and Jordan Clarkson were both on the team in November 2013...almost 2 calendar years ago. The highest scoring game under Kim Anderson last year (exhibition or regular season) was 79. The offense actually looked like there was a gameplan and we created plenty of open looks.

I know it's one game. I know it's just an exhibition against a D2 school. But it's easy to see that this team is different. I'm calling it now...Kim Anderson and this team finish 17-16 with notable improvement throughout the season. For anyone who didn't watch tonight, I assure you that you will enjoy watching this team way more than last year's team. Kim Anderson is bringing Mizzou basketball back baby...HERE WE COME

MWSU only won 12 games at the D2 level and lost their top 2 scorers to graduation. They're a very bad D2 team and were even smaller than we are. That game showed we can score, although we only had 33 at half. I'm optimistic but until they play a team with a pulse its all still TBD.

All very good points. Like I said, I'm just letting my overreactions run wild...I have this new found optimism in sports after seeing the Royals win it all

Hey man, I know it's an exhibition game but didn't we lose our exhibition game last year?

Just refreshing to see some good ball movement and guys knocking down shots. We'll see how it translates.

Thanks for the info. I remember being excited after the William Jewell game last year. Then UMKC happened. Had high hopes for that team.

I think I'll steal a line from what I heard so much last year after the UMKC game. "Wait until conference play and we'll see what kind of team it is." Or was that "Well, wait until the last week of conference play to see what kind of team it is." No, it was "Wait until the SEC tourney to see what kind of team it is." Wrong again. It was "Wait until next year."

Seriously though. Hope it works.

Yeah, watching it now. Not knocking MU. They're doing what they're supposed to. But this MWSU is worse than my Y team. Seriously.

No.

Beat William Jewell. And I was excited that KA was the real deal. Struggled but beat UMSL too.

Then opened the regular season with a loss to UMKC.

Yeah, I remember now.

Just thought they looked better. Much better flow and ball movement. No more ISO for 6'8 guys who can't dribble.

They brought a ton of energy in the first exhibition game last year too. In fact, they brought more. There were more bodies on the floor going after loose balls than in any game I've ever seen. Just got through the first half so maybe it's coming.

Judging from the box score, the 2nd half was much better. 1st half was so-so to be honest.

There were a few things that this team has done in the 2 times I have seen them this year that they didn't do last year.
1) finish through contact. It's mostly new guys doing this. Walton and Woods.
2) is ball and people movement. Last year the offense was always 1-2 passes away, it would stick a lot. Even in exhibition games offense came down to one on one ball. That isn't the case this year.

That bodes well, but it's still going to be a struggle this year. The first week has 2 NCAA tournament teams from last year.

I'm fixing to watch the 2nd half. Could only get through the 1st half last night.

I like Phillips and Walton. Rest of them? Not bad but didn't impress me in the first half. We will get destroyed by any teams with anything close to a resemblance of an inside game. I think we were outrebounded at one point near the end of the first half. To not just a D2 team but a horrendous D2 team. Woods has better footwork underneath than we've seen in quite some time but he's just not that strong/physical. 1st half thoughts at least. Will watch the 2nd as it seems we get better there. Still upside down on assists and turnovers, or near it if I had to guess.

That's the part of the level change in competition that scares me.

More times than not, our offense consisted of all 5 guys outside or near the arc. They'd move and pass the ball but it's a far cry from the inside out style of offense KA talked about wanting when he came here. Certainly understand part of it has to do with the personnel he chose to go with but it will lead to getting killed on the boards at a minimum.

I think that was pretty well known. We definitely lack size and will get abused on the boards. Which means they'll have to be a pretty efficient offense and knock down shots. Looks like Walton and Van Leer can shoot. Wright is a good shooter and Isabell has a nice stroke as well.

I just liked the ball movement last night. We ran too much ISO last year with two really inefficient players in Gill Ceaser and Williams.

I don't know if we'll be any better, but it "looked better" from a flow standpoint.

Definitely did as the year went on. Watch the first exhibition game last year though and you'll see a lot of ball movement too. A lot of kicking down low to kick it back high. Not the run the 4 corners stall until there's 5 seconds left on the shot clock and then go 1 on 1 like we did in the regular season.
