Getting time for the week1 depth.

How does everyone see C, RG, DE and S playing out? Kind of jumbled in these positions. Lot of bodies, but not much proven production.

C- Dubinski ended the season starting and was recently put on scholarship. Castillo seems to be making a very strong ouch for that spot though, and you also have Bailey who started most of last year and Abeln has also started games here.

RG- Ploudre ended last year as the starter and is supposed to be the strongest guy on the team. Simms also seems to be making a strong push here. Abeln has started games here also. Also need to find a backup at LG out of these guys.

DE- This one is a pretty big mystery. Only proven player coming back is Frazier. I think Harold will probably start, but I doubt he hangs onto it. Agbasimere, Byers, Turner and Anderson could all play in the rotation or even start.

S- Hard to get a gauge here as well. I think Sherrills and Perkins start, but could also see Hilton or Wilson. Ulmer may break through as well.

Still some things to be decided here (didn't even get into CB or LB), and I feel like week 1 is going to be a dress audition for a lot of guys. I'm glad we don't have a legitimate game out of the gates this year.

A question about Frazier at de. Was he really that good in Mizzou's last so many games or was he just benefiting off Charles Harris being on the other side getting most of the attention?

Frazier is going to lineup next to TBJ this season. So he will be getting to benefit off of TBJ getting double teamed.

THE biggest position battle will be for DC; is it BO or Cross?

Odom said that Cheadle would start if kickoff were now.

I can see Harold starting opposite Frazier, then smash or Byers getting in the mix ice they have experience.

OL may rotate a bunch during the year. I'm guessing the starters are set for game 1, but there'll be competition there as the year progresses. Not too concerned with that.

Hoping as Acy and Holmes get reps they improve, and may earn starts later in the year as well.

I'm guess starts early in the year will be the most consistent players, and will change as some of the younger guys get experience, learn the system, and show good decision making/plays.

Here's a little more info on the cornerback position. Hopefully Acy and Holmes have progressed.

Missouri ranked 12th in the Southeastern Conference in pass defense last year, giving up 247 yards per game. It was also 12th in opponent third-down percentage, allowing foes to convert 44.3 percent of the time.

hope they can improve on that

The 2 freshmen were close to playing anyways. Petry and Sparks.

Ok, but Holmes is (presumably) better than those guys at a position where we already have huge question marks. It's a big blow.

Depends how long he's out. If Holmes is back by he end of September, that's not too bad.

According to the link above Cheadle and Acy were projected starters.

At worst he was the #3 CB. I would have thought he would have overtaken Cheadle at some point.

End of September is a very aggressive timeline, and even then we will have already played two conference games by then.

This hurts, no way around it.

Yes it hurts, but we don't really know how much he would have played.
It's a bigger issue if something happens to either Acy or Cheadle.

BO has said that these 2 players will be a major part of the db rotation and I really love Jerod Alton with the ball in his hands. I would have loved to see what he could have brought to the offense with his shiftiness.

C - My guess is BO goes with the experience. My PURE guess reading between the lines is that Castillo is/will be better but he's young still. Haven't heard Bailey's name much so I'd bet he's a backup the rest of his career short of injuries.
RG - Ploudre probably gets the nod to start the season but I think Simms is starting before seasons end.
DE - I think it's a safe bet that Harold starts of starting but is passed by someone who takes advantage of reps as the season goes on.
S - Probably right about Sherrills and Perkins to start the year. Staff seems to like Hilton like some of y'all so he would be my next guess.

I think there's a good chance that Ulmer and Perkins are the starting safeties by the end of the season.

Agree but end of Sept won't happen; could be the year but let's not move any closer to the ledge until we get confirmation

Looks like Frazier has a strained quad and Witter has a pulled hamstring. Both are sitting out practice right now. Hopefully they'll be back for the SC game.
