OT: Why is Steak n Shake branding so weird?

OT and a very offseason thread.
I'm sure a lot of you see Steak n Shake commercials on tv.
Why are they branding themselves so weird?
Culvers is kicking arse. A new place around here, Freddy's is kicking butt too.
Both brand themselves as Americana. Both have a clean, normal feel.
Both seem to have clean-cut quality employees.
Steak n Shake has this weird thing going with their commercials, and their employees are not on par with Culvers.
I don't eat the quick food anymore, but hate seeing a stable of my childhood go down the drain.
Anyone else see this?

I've seen those strange commercials during the Cards broadcasts.
You should see the Steak N' Shake they just opened here in Santa Monica. It's an abomination. No chili, horrible service, its a fricking joke.
I've been to a couple in OKC quite a bit, the service was horrible, the restaurant was dirty, and the food was cold. It was a joke.
Seems to me like SNS is a dying company, eventhough they are "expanding" out here. There's one across the street from a Freddy's out in the high desert, supposedly its a classic SNS, with decent service. I'll check it out the next time I go to Vegas.

I don't know if it's going downhill or not. Growing up Steak and Shake always had odd employees. The key here is to make sure you are eating it at 4 in the morning

That's exactly what I see. Bad service. Dirty.
As places like Culvers, Chic-fi-la ect turn up the standards SNS has turned them down.
So strange.
