"OK fellas, now, after you stand up in pass protection, it's not helpful to simply stick out your elbow when a defender runs past you. Also, it does no good to then turn around and follow him until he makes the tackle."

Rocker was a good player. Unfortunately not all good players make good coaches.

To be fair Florida's Dline has done that to everyone they have faced.
If the line plays more like it did against USCe the rest of the season then the offense can be close to ok. Which will be enough to get to 7-8 wins.

And as a counterpoint, our Oline has looked serviceable in exactly one of our games.

Georgia will manhandle them.
As will Tennessee.

Yeah, I'm not sure where we get 7-8 wins.

UGA & UT haven't had great line play. And neither really plays the pressman coverage that Florida plays. So the short passing game may make a comeback.
We have the defense to have a chance at winning the rest of the games.
We also have the offense to lose the rest of the games.

I know we looked like shite, and have looked like shite for the most part but that defense is legit for Florida.

We won't play another one like it. This season comes down to salvaging some shred of respectability and getting our young guys experience.

Did anyone see the swim move on Abeln? That was comical.

Will anyone attend if we somehow, miraculously, make the Playtex Tampon Bowl in Des Moines?

I don't see much interest in fans traveling if we somehow win 6 or 7 games. (not that that's a given, either)

I think there were several of those times that were designed role outs for screen plays. The line came loose way to quick and those d-linemen are way too fast to not chuck'm before letting them by.

so was Ricker..

most of these seniors spent as much time w/ Bruce Walker and Josh Henson coaching them, I'm not saying he's done much of anything to make them better but let's not pretend we've had elite coaching at the position and all of a sudden it's gone to shite.

To be fair, we've been doing this against more teams than just UF. And no, still no excuse for just waving at someone as they drive by. At least slow them down a little fricking bit.

Here's an OLine question kind of separate from the coaching... Pinkel, the assistants and Pat Ivey have generally done a great job developing 2 and 3* kids to compete at the highest levels of the SEC.

The one exception IMO has been the offensive line. In big games against ultra elite competition, they struggle.

Is this a reflection that the star system holds true at OLine or am I off base?

Honestly, I don't understand not having McGovern at Guard. Why have your best lineman at LT if the rest of the line is going to suck it up?

Why not have 4 solid linemen and worry about LT by using TE's and motion?

Mizzou OLine played best without Crawford or Abeln. McNulty had a comically bad play as well, but with Chapell at RT and McNulty at LG we ran the ball much better.

I think we can get 8 wins.

BYU is winnable, they got shut out by Michigan.

Vanderbilt is winnable, their offense might be worse than ours.

That's 6. Now you just need to pull out 2 of UGA/UT/Arkansas/Miss St.

Arkansas/Miss St both winnable games.

Best case is 8-4. Worst case is 6-6.

Mizzou missed on a lot of their priority targets when moving to the SEC. It's showing this year. There were a couple of decommitts 1 of which is likely to be a first round pick for A&M this year. There were also a few that Mizzou just missed on the last few seasons.
Those misses are really showing on the line this year.

Next year is going to be worse unless we get a bunch of JUCO Transfers.

I think it's a little bit of both. I know with lineman it could be a little harder to evaluate due to these young men increasing strength and speed during their college years that could put them at a different projected position. It also depends on if a player has reached a potential ceiling or doesn't have the temperament to be a lineman in the SEC.

One thing I wonder with Pinkel particularly is how does he determine starters and rotations. Is talent/potential not valued as high as experience?

Example: Hugh Freeze was devastated when Andy Bauer flipped his commitment to us. He acknowledged that Andy Bauer was penciled in to start next to Laremy Tunsil at LG. Now I know he may have lingering issues with his hip but with that type of potential on the roster how is it we don't see what some of our other players can do?

With Boehm he was destined for a redshirt if it was not for our injury plagued 2012 season and we see how he has developed and helped this offense year after year.

Bauer had another hip surgery this summer. Health my be the biggest issue preventing him from playing this year.

Bauer may never play again. It's a shame.

Can we just move McGovern back to guard already? I always thought the process of "getting the five best on the field" was very shortsighted

Bauer's is congenital, not so much an injury. Good chance he never plays. Shame
