They are going to have a meeting at the end of the season. Do you think that the department head is going to be sitting in that meeting empty handed eating what ever shite sandwich the coach feeds him? He doesn't have to dig into the Xs and Os with Odom's to have his own appraisal of the staff and to have a grasp on the probable direction of the program. That is why he is the department head.

Beyond that, I never said he was going to discuss LB reads on running plays. Here is what I said
quote:

At the end of the season, he is going to have to go to Sterk with a list of things that are/were wrong and how he is going to fix them. His answers are going to dictate how much rope Sterk is going to give him. .

If you guys think that Sterk is going to sit with his thumb in his arse if he doesn't like Odom's SITREP, so be it.

That's almost exactly what you said he was going to do. We all agree that Sterk is going to hold him accountable if he's doing his job.

Let's say Odom goes in with the attitude that its all a talent issue, and offers no plan for losing the team or fan confidence, does Sterk pull the plug after 1 year?

Doubtful. But it will be a tally mark in a place you don't want a tally mark if you're wiBO.

I would really be surprised...Unless things continue to deteriorate, on and off the field.

If BO hasn't completely lost the team. He's damn close.

Saying it's just a lack of talent, is the cheap nutless way out.

As far as Sterk goes. I remain hopeful, he's as good as we all think.

errbody (xcept for nuke) is acting like there is just this one AD automaton and they are all alike and make the same decisions. There are good and bad, just like coaches. So HTF do we know what sterk will do when we don't know him.

If barryO goes in with no reason why he lost the team other than I need better players I hope sterk immediately starts checking out his other options. I hope he is thinking about it now. I hope he is better than Alden. I guess we will see.

I haven't read the quotes where Odom points to a lack of talent.

Does anyone have them handy?

No, Odom is getting 3 years at the very least. Likely 4 unless we are just terrible in year 3.

He'll either adjust or change the scheme on defense or he won't, and he'll either get players that can run the current defense (if he stays with it which seems likley) or he won't.

He's going to get a full oppurtunity to turn this around. I've lost a lot of faith in his ability to do that, but I still think he is a very good football coach. I just think he is having a very difficult time adjusting to being the head guy. He's made many mistakes, and his future will be determined by whether he can correct them or not. You have to be confident in yourself, I just hope he doesn't dig his heels in too deep.

If Odom enters that meeting and lays the season all on the players he will deserve what ever short rope he leaves with.

That won't happen IMO and Odom give a harsh appraisal of his defensive staff to match the outside appraisal that Sterk will have sitting in front of him.

If however, those appraisals are skewed, Sterk doesn't have much professional investment in Odom and another poor season would likely expedite a change.

Odom has a reputation as one of the top 5-10 defensive coaches in the country, especially the X and O's aspect of the game. I'm still pretty confident in him as a HC. I'm still willing to give him till next season, especially if he can land several of the top instate talents in that class.

If he goes in and lays blame on his staff, and then proceeds to make no changes what does that say?

I really think he needs to fire Cross. Even if it's not necessarily his fault there needs to be a message sent and getting an experienced DC could possibly help.

I've never heard anyone outside this board make the claim about Odom's coaching reputation. He coached at Memphis for a few years. Where does his so called reputation come from? Is there an interview link or anything?

It says one of two things:

1. He and Sterk agree on another spring and fall camp to completely immerse defensive two deep.

2. He and Sterk disagree and Odom's tenure depends on He, Cross, Walter, Shipp, and Brown completing the install.
