MU football was expected to compete in the SEC during its first season and fell way below expectations causing the masses to call for coach GP's head.
My question is what will it take before the same happens with FH? I am not quite there. Yet.
To me every game the Tigers look totally unprepared in the first half. They have too much talent to be so mediocre. Not trying to be negative. Trying to see where everyones breaking point might be.

I'm not there YET either. I would like to chalk it up to the fact that the players have never played together before. Th 2 players that have played together the most in their careers are NWC and Jankovic at Huntington. But I don't know if the answer is that simple. I don't think all the problems I see can be attributed only to that, such:

1. Lack of intensity from the opening tip.
2. Lack of a half court offense.
3. Team play instead of individual play.
4. Lazy defense, falling asleep at times and playing with the hands instead of the feet.
5. Too many switches on defense instead of fighting through picks and screens.

I don't even think next year is his "hot seat" year but I do think next year will tell us a lot more about Haith as a coach. He will have Pressey, Criswell, Ross, and Brown all coming back after playing significant minutes together. he'll also have NWC, Jank and Rosberg who have gotten decent minutes as freshmen coming back after playing together. He will have Clarkson who has been with the team for a year and a decent recruiting class coming in. I think Bull, Feldman and of course Haith will always be non-factors and would love to see them replaced with guys who might contribute before their careers are over. (I know Haith isn't going anywhere but I don't think he's on scholarship...not sure). I just think we have to ride out this season and see what Haith does with the team next year.

My analysis: I was never sold on Haith even after last season. One, he succeeded last year with a group of seniors who were talented and motivated to win at all costs. They had played together for 3 years and had fantastic chemistry. They would've succeeded with just about any coach in America last year. Two, Haith was awful at Miami. Now you might say, "but Miami is a terrible basketball school and it's hard to succeed there!". That may be so, but why have they improved both years since he left? Why are they 7-0 and in first place in the ACC with a victory over #1 Duke? I say it's no coincidence that this is happening after Haith left. Piggy backing off of that, yes Haith can recruit good talent. He recruited several McDonald's All Americans at Miami. However, that never translated into positive results. Talent didn't seem to be the issue there, much like its not the issue here. He has a top 3 PG in the country (Pressey), a national champion Center (Oriakhi), an all SEC player Laurence Bowers, a McDonald's All American Jabari Brown, a talented Earnest Ross, and two solid players in Tony Criswell and Keion Bell. With all that talent, why are we toiling in the middle tier of an awful SEC at 4-3 with 0 road wins on the season? So what if these guys haven't all played together a lot? A good coach knows how to get guys to gel and work together. Haith can't even get Pressey to respect or listen to him. Keep in mind, these players were all practicing together through last season, so they've played and been around each other for well over a year now. In short, the players are not the problem, the difficulty of the schedule is not the problem, the coaching IS the problem.

Two very good posts.
On the matter of the gel factor. I dont buy it. They have 20 games under their belts plus exhibitions. My greatest fear is spooking away any pieces of this great recruiting class we have lined up. Seen it happen on the football side following a not so great season.

Kc you're absolutely right, isn't it so mizzou as well that the NCAA fricked up the investigation that would almost surely have sent haith packing? Not having our coach fired was the real kick in the nuts.

Last year every player on the team knew their role. I do not thing that is the case this year. With Dixon gone who is the 6th man? Who brings instant energy and offense? Bowers gets hurt now who takes his place? Who is the senior leader or who brings leadership?

Flip looks like he believes he has to play point guard, shooting guard and bring leadership. Maybe HCFH told him he had to. It is effecting his play and it is killing us.

My breaking point would be in 2014 or 15. When or after we have some top recruits in place. Haith is going after some high profile players right now. Nothing against guys we have now, but everyone acts like this teams full of 5* players. It's not. I'm disapointed in thier play on the road, but the more I watch this team the more I know what to expect. Slow sloppy first half followed by a totally different team in the second half.

I seen this team take a step forward lastnight. They kind of had the refs on them in the first half, but seemed to get enough energy to play around those bad calls. They still fell short, but they didn't go down without a fight.

Jafo, just curious. What about last night made you think they took a step forward last night? They have played sloppy and lazy in the first half of probably 80% of our games and do play hard, more energized and fight in the second half. They've done that all year. To me taking a step forward will be to come out all guns blazing starting at the opening tip. We won't know that until the next game.

While I agree with your reference to the 80% game thing, what I was getting at is this was a road game they were down by like 15 points and could have just called it in like at Ole Miss and Florida. But they didn't. They fought all the way to the end. Which they didn't do in the other two games they were blown out of. The LSU game last night started to remind me of the Ole Miss game at the beginning. But they stuck in there then went cold until the second half. LSU was playing thier asses off big time. Mizzou had to fight hard to pull back into striking distance but just couldn't get over the hump. Thats closer than they had been in other road games in the conference. Take away a couple mistakes at the end and make a few of those free thows and they win that game last night. They also played most of the second half without Alex O too. I see Rosberg playing better also. They also played through the usual crappy officiating. Thats the step forward I seen. I don't look at it as just a loss or even a win after games.

Missed this part of your comment.

Yes I'd agree this would be not just a step forward but a HUGE step forward to come out guns blazing. They actually have come out guns blazing, they just can't hit the broad side of a barn in the first half for some reason, probably confidence and pressure defense they run into.

You know, I've been wondering what they practice....in practice. You know what I mean? Example, with Pressey. Remember the commentators commenting on how Pressey was practicing that one shot at the top of the key before the game? It's repetition. If these guys are not getting the practice reps at shooting during practice....say because they are practicing defense so much, maybe this is why they are so off on shots and shot selection on offense. ??????

I know it's grasping but it's just a thought.

I have to believe they are gym rats and are getting plenty of repetition at shooting even if not in practice, though you'd like to hope it's then too where they can get some coaching if something is out of sync. Anytime it's over 40, my kid is shooting outside for hours, probably 100's of shots. With their nice, warm, indoor facilities, I'd bet they're shooting some amount of time before or after practice.

Absolutely agree. I was just reaching.

You would think a kid like Jabari would be shooting alittle better than he is currently being he's touted as a pure shooter. Kid couldn't even hit the rim on a 3 against Florida.

Somethins got'm rattled. They looked alittle more compfy against LSU, but they were still having trouble.

I stopped counting air balls in the Ole Miss game once I got to 5.
