9 teams. 8/9 seeds have a pigtail match to come into the bracket, otherwise the normal 1-8, 2-7, etc. match-ups in the first round. Bids are automatic NCAA qualification spots if you place within the Top however many bids at that weight. Some situations may occur where if 2 wrestlers haven't matched up, they may wrestle off for the last place bid if there are even numbers of bids. That is what happened last year with Mikey England, and how he earned his bid. But generally that doesn't happen often.

125(4 bids): Barlow McGhee gets the #2 seed. Defeating his first round NIU opponent 8-5 in the dual, and should have Fleetwood of Cent Mich in the Semi's with a bid on the line. Beat him 9-4 in the dual. Should go 2 wins and guarantee his bid, with the finals a tough match-up with Peters of UNI. Even if he gets upset, 4 bids gives him some leeway.

133 (6 bids): Synon gets the #2 seed and a favorable bid setup. Basically, if he wins one match, he is getting a bid. His first match is the NIU kid he lost to in OT during the dual. One win and in. I think he should be able to pull that off.

141 (4 bids): Manley getting the #1 seed. Tough Semi-final from either of the 4/5 wrestlers, but should easily make the finals and earn a bid.

149 (5 bids): Mayes with the #1 Seed. Sleepwalk to a bid.

157 (5 bids): Barnes with the #5 seed. Actually should be the most entertaining weight of the tournament. Opening match is huge. If he wins that, he is set up really well to earn his bid. I am confident he finds a way to grab a Top 5 spot.

165 (4 bids): Lewis with the #1 seed. Tough match in the finals but other than that, should be dominant. Definitely getting a bid.

174 (3 bids): #2 seed for Butler. Tough allocation draw overall, with all three top 3 seeds legit wrestlers and almost no room for errors. Really tough semi-final matchup that he needs to win. If the worst happens, I think he gets a wild card bid anyways.

184 (4 bids): Willie with a #1 seed is a bit surprising. Oh well. He wont see Dechow until the finals anyways. Hope he has healed for the postseason.

197 (5 bids): J'den with the #1 seed. He may not even get to wrestle Wellington, but not very important. No one is close to him.

285 (1 bid): Heavy got the shortest stick with only 1 bid. Cody Johnston is getting the nod. He is the 8/9 seed. If he wins his opening match he will have the #1 seed from UNI Cabell. Weirdly enough, this is probably his best case scenario if he wants to win the bid. Cabell is small for heavyweight too. If Johnston upsets him, he has a very good shot at winning the thing, as the pool of talent is weak. Only two guys are worrisome, Cabell and Hutchison from Cent Mich. Hutch is on the other side and would only be a finals matchup. One match at a time for the senior.

End of the day...I think we see 9 guys going to the NCAA tournament.

Not really. Occasionally they might find an individual who is good.

Just an fyi for 5th Tiger.

In case you missed it, Fresno St is bringing back wrestling.

They're going to try to join PAC12 for wrestling. Plan B is Big 12.

Day 1 went pretty well. It was full of upsets overall, and Mizzou dodged most of the bloodshed, but had a few falter.

125- Barlow did what he needed to and is in the Finals tomorrow. Has a NCAA berth locked up. Winning a conference title would just be sprinkles.

133- Synon goes 2 and out. Will wait to see if he gets an at large bid. Has decent numbers, but committee might see his form as of late and leave him at home.

141- Scary moment as Manley got his knee twisted, but labored on into the Final tomorrow. Has a NCAA bid locked up. If his knee is hurting, I'd rather him forfeit since he is already good for NCAA's.

149- Mayes messed around and got beat. One of the major upsets today. Still fine, as he got 3rd at this tournament last year. Should be able to win his match and lock up an auto bid tomorrow. If not, he would definitely get an at large bid. No worries, just finish the tournament strong.

157- Barnes came to wrestle. Kicked off the tournament pinning the #4 seed. Then advanced to the final when the #1 seed was ruled out via concussion protocol in their match. Wouldn't have won, but goes to the finals. Faces another guy who pulled an upset. Weird how things worked out for him. NCAA bid locked up.

165- Lewis just kicking the shite out of everyone. In the Finals with a Bid locked.

174- Blaise had a really tough semifinal match that he ended up winning 2-1. Showed alot of heart. Has a very tough Finals match, but a bid locked up.

184- Willie was part of the carnage. Dropped his semifinal to someone he had no business losing to. Doesn't look right. Still has a chance to lock up an autobid tomorrow.

197-J'den steamrolled. Has Wellington in the final tomorrow with a bid locked up.

285- Cody Johnston contributing some good team points with 2 wins in the tournament. He is out of the running for a bid, but helping the team. Still has a chance to come all the way back for 3rd.

6 in the Finals with bids locked up. Title race is well in hand. Don't like to see some people losing, but shouldn't hurt us too much

125- 1st- Barlow looked hella good all tournament. Clicking on all cylinders. NCAA bound.

133- 0-2- Synon's slide continues. Will have to wait and see for at-large bid.

141- 2nd- Manley did what he needed to, although his knee got caught in the semi's, injuring him a bit. As a precaution they kept him out of the Finals, just injury defaulting. Doesn't hurt him in any way. He already owns a win over Mecate, and injury defaults don't count against you. NCAA bound.

149- 4th- Mayes gets knocked off in the semi's by being lazy. Gets back to 3rd place match before injury defaulting. Likely just to save energy and not risk injury. NCAA bound.

157- 1st- Barnes is a great story this year, although it came at the expense of the most unlucky wrestler in NCAA history. Ian Miller would have won his 4th conference title, and likely a #1 or #2 seed, but instead has to forfeit during their match due to concussion protocol. Barnes takes advantage and wins the darn thing. NCAA Bound.

165- 1st- Lewis owned everyone. NCAA bound

174- 1st- Blaise gets a rebound win in the finals against Ottinger, and beats Walters again. Really putting it all together. NCAA bound.

184- 3rd- Willie looked rough on Day 1, although he rebounded to claim 3rd. Interesting to see where he will be at NCAA's. NCAA bound.

197-1st - J'den conquers his demon...Phil Wellington. Now that is out of the way, onward to NCAA's. NCAA bound.

285-6th- Cody Johnston stepped up and won a couple matches for the tigers. Nice way to go out in his career.

I just hope he can win a couple of matches in the wrestle back or whatever it's called. He's got one move and that does him no good because everyone knows it's coming.

So, we have 9 wrestlers with NCAA bids. That seems awesome!! Does any team have more?

SEMO: Iowa also has 9, Penn State has, I believe, 7. I don't think any school has more.

I actually tried to research it and it looks like Okie Lt has 10, a wrestler in every weight class. Regardless, I'm incredibly proud of our team!!
