I'm really starting to loathe his tenure at Mizzou in hindsight.

This is what happens when people think you can't pay a bball coach more than a football coach. Also when old timers love a guy so much that they threaten to pull donations if he isn't hired.

You don't have to tell me twice.

As much as he's fricked the basketball program, I love baseball and he all but guaranteed that it would wither away to nothing. I get it. Not a revenue sport. But other universities, even outside of the SEC, provide more support.

He got lucky with a solid hire in GP and road his coat tails and shitted on every other program in the meantime.

Everybody is down on KA, and I understand. But ALDEN was and still is the problem. His touch is on every aspect of Mizzou basketball even NOW.

And now ALDEN has his nice "safe place" at Mizzou. Here he can play professor.

This "safe place" for ALDEN is what really bothers me. WHO THE HELL allowed this to happen should be drug into the streets with ALDEN where all are tar and feathered. Then carried out of town on a rail.

See I don't buy that. Hindsight will always be 20/20, but he made some good decisions at the time.

Fundraising was unparalleled in Mizzou history, probably his best aspect. GP is obvious. Quin and MA were great hires. Haith hire sucked, and he got played by Painter. KA wasn't really his call. Did an incredible job hiring non-revenue sports coaches. Earleywine, Brian Smith, Kreklow, etc. etc.

When all is considered, he was a net positive. His job wasn't to be a coaches babysitter, grown men and women have a reasonable expectation to do their job well without oversight.

I agree with 5th Tiger.

Don't wipe away that memory of how bad of shape we were in the 90s.

Undoubtedly there were mistakes made in BB hiring. But who knew? We thought it was a HR hiring Quin Snyder, when the better candidate was Bill Self.

Every hire after that was like pulling teeth. The guy(s) we wanted turned us down and/or used us, forcing us to Plan B.

I'll bet he was just smart enough to leave the AD position seeing the dumpster fire Loftin was building.

He was drug through the coals because many big time donors wanted KA so he almost had to offer him when others backed out or said no. He was an awful AD but I really don't blame him much on the KA hire because he was pressured to make that one.

Disagree. Look at what his bad hires have led to NCAA violations under not 1 but 2 coaches. Stop with this hindsite is 20/20 crap. He was hired to do a job and he didn't get it done with finding a basketball coach. It's great that he hired really good non revenue coaches but he missed out on the second biggest money making coach. He ruined the basketball program.

5th Tiger - you took my statement totally out of context. Look at my sentence before and after the quote you used of mine. I'm talking basketball only. You start running off about other sports. When you take someone's quote out of context you lose credibility from the beginning.

What ALDEN did to BB is criminal. How 'bout that Quinn exit??? How 'about that MA exit??? The Haith hiring was a "beauty" from beginning to end, and it hasn't ended yet. KA inherited sanctions and didn't even know about them! How about ALDEN'S incompetent Compliance Dept. allowing violations???

Blowing warm air up my arse about off-topic responsibilities is weak.

If you are going to criticize him for one particular program, you have to give him credit for others. Sure, Basketball is in a terrible place, but all of that is not Alden's doing. We can blame the coaches. If we hired Coach K away from Duke, that would be incredible, and a great hire. Say Coach K had a few bad seasons before moving on, that wouldn't be the AD's problem, IMO.

Who is Mizzou's big donor? They need a guy like Dr. Chaifetz. Chaifetz payed for 100% of Rick majerus contract.

We have plenty, just not particularly for athletics. But we do have large athletic donors as well. Laurie's gave $25mil in one shot for Mizzou Arena. A lot of people don't want their name all over stuff, so they will give to things like the KC Sports Trust.

My family gives to a trust in order to stay anonymous, as do alot of our family friends. Some people like our family lawyer request anonymity from the school, but still get Suites and Boxes.

Gifts going to the academic side often result in a suite being provided for the donor, but don't show up on the athletic donor side.

So who hired these coaches? So a guy and a school so afraid of getting their hands dirty, have done a great job of getting their hands dirty by hiring the "squeaky clean" guys.
