Marshall or Crean. Either one, and I'll be happy.

Make it happen JS.

I think Marshall will listen, we had his ear last go around.

He would be target numero uno if I were Sterk. Hopefully he stopped in to say hello during The Valley Tourney in STL.

Crean would be 1A, great coach, fun teams. Would get us a shot at conference championships and Final Fours.

Either one would be the best hire since Norm walked in the door, and maybe better.

I really miss basketball, I have faith in Sterk. He got old man Fisher down here to completely change the face of SDSU bball.

He can surely do the same at Mizzou.

Most seem to think Marshall will be out of our price range.

As far as Crean goes. Would he consider leaving IF Indiana didn't fire him?

There's the rub.

I doubt it, which is why you go full Kenny Powers on Marshall.

He says no, and Crean stays at IU, you take that package to him.

He says no, we're back to square one, which very well may happen.

If you fail bringing it, fine. If you fail and ask yourself could I have done more you've let us down Sterk.

Marshall hates kU, and he wouldn't even have to change his wardrobe!

Plus Kentucky fans seem to genuinely hate him. Huge plus.

In a way, I feel KA will have done his job if Sterk does his and lands one of those top guys. A lot more positive energy about this coaching search than last 2. Personally I would offer just about the whole enchilada to Marshall + a large staff budget.

He isn't; he's making $3M right now (I'm 99% sure that's the right $) & we can go to $4M without a problem. I'd offer 6 yrs at $3.75M and see what he says.

He turned down $4M+ from Alabama last year.

I think he did bc he had a pretty badass team coming back plus Bama ain't a BB school. Like I said that's my offer, not what I'd settle on. I think we could go to $4.5 fairly easy but we need to offer more years....6, maybe even 7.

They still remember that Elite Eight loss to his Marquette squad.

Agreed... SHOCKER. He turned down BAMA. lol

He's worth a shot..... If he balks at 4.5 or 5 mil a year, so be it.

Plus I think he was coaching Indiana when Oladipo hit the big shot to beat them at the buzzer during the regular season.

Well, when you get down to the brass tacks... its not like you guys are the Sisters of the Poor. Dropping 5 million on a top notch basketball coach is now in your budget.

Yes, you will need some wins to bring in the fans and justify that paycheck, but with the SEC money flowing in you might as well go big. There is more then enough talent in the Missouri footprint to be perennial NCAAT team and to make a deep run every few years.

I say give your next coach the Godfather offer and make them an offer they can't refuse. Don't settle for a cheap coach. You've got the money and talent to put your thang down.

Well said.

If our goal is to make it to the big dance, there are plenty of coaching options.

However, if we really want a legitimate shot at a National Championship. Then they need to find a way to bring home a coach that can take us there.

That involves 4-5mil a year with 5,6,7 year contract.

Crean makes 3.13

Marshall 3.3

Curious to see who we end up with.

Alabama's an entirely different situation. Sure, they have money, but if Marshall wants to be somewhere that basketball's #1, that ain't Bama. It could be Mizzou. If both basketball and football were good at the same time, I'm not sure which would get more attention. Probably football, but probably not by that much. Mizzou definitely gets behind a great basketball program.

In regards to Marshall. I think that if Sterk was AD 3 years, he would be our coach. I think we have to give him big money but I think he will come here under Sterk. I think Mike Alden was the issue

Well if I was Marshall and looking to take that next step up I'd lean more towards Missouri then Alabama or LSU. All three schools have access to fertile recruiting grounds and deep pockets. But at Bama or LSU you could win 27 games a season and still be second banana to a 7-5 football team.

Go to a school that loves basketball instead of one that just tolerates it as something to do while they wait for football spring practice to start back up.

I think there is less than a 50% chance Indiana fires Crean.
Lot's of optimism right now, but we should prepare our official Mizzou nut cups.

Is that gut?

Buyout won't be an issue for them. He has a $4M buyout but usually those are reduced by whatever income he makes. So if he got a $3M salary here, I think usually his buyout would be $1M.

If this happens I think Crean takes the job without being fired.
