Everyone wants to compare this to Ben Simmons and LSU'S lack of success with him. I think the biggest difference with that is the team we have has had a lot of adversity. I think we'll have a nasty deep team on our hands

The difference is coaching; LSU didn't have any.

LSU had terrible team chemistry that year. They had 3-4 guys including Simmons that had to have to ball to be effective. That wouldn't really be the case with MPJ at Mizzou. He is good both on and off the ball.

JJ had LSU playing like an AAU team. Just do what ever you want.

Plus JJ blows.
plus Porter > simmons

The amount of individual talent LSU had on the roster really, really highlights just how bad of a coach Johnny Jones is. Outside of Simmons there was one current NBA guy and two current D Leaguers, and Antonio Blakeney who has pro basketball in his future.

There were guys. Jones was so bad at coaching basketball and managing personalities that in two years with multiple NBA players he managed one tournament appearance with a loss to Mark fricking Gottfried.

Don't forget that an LSU team with two NBA forwards went into Mizzou Arena and got absolutely worked on boards and lost the game. I really fricking hate Johnny Jones.

I can say with some degree of certainty that history will not repeat itself. Martin has already shown to be lightyears ahead of Jones from a coaching standpoint. And I don't think that Porter is going to be nearly the negative presence in the locker room that Simmons was.

LSU's problem wasn't Simmons. He can't shoot, or hasn't shown that he can yet. surround Simmons with 3-4 shooters and LSU would have been great.

Porter has already shown that he can play off the ball, so is more diverse as a player. Because of that it's easier to build around him.

Oh you will hear a lot about it. I would expect any fan base that lands a talent like him to be excited, especially when you're not used to getting that type of talent. I could see UK fans saying "Just another day in the office" but just about every other team would be pumped.
