Color me unimpressed.

Discuss.

Dropped into an impossible situation. In less than a year on the job, he has had to take on one of the worst times in Mizzou history. That is no easy feat, especially for a guy just coming in a getting feel for the state and its culture.

Why do you think this? What has he done positively?

Energized fan support? Nope.
Brought in amazing personnel? Nope.
Increased fundraising? Nope.
Skillfully navigated the media? Nope.

He has faced some difficult situations. I see nothing that inspires confidence in his handling of any of them.

We won't know for 13 months. But Odom was an iffy hire. Like KA, he seemed to be the "safe" choice at the time. Was that the right call?

Unless there's upheaval in our spring sport coaches (Jamie doctoring baseballs or Earlywine caught dog fighting)...we'll have to wait to see how basketball plays out next year.

Right. He could've moved on from Jamieson last year. Didn't.

Tried to bring in an outside home run hire in FB. Couldn't.

Watched our basketball team for two years and ordered up another round of it.

We will know more about his mettle in the next 12-18 months, but it's an inauspicious start.

Winning does all of those things. Specifically winning in the 2 money sports.

He hired a new football coach that is super respected in the coaching industry. It may have been a dad/good/great hire.

I would hardly place the blame on him for fan support or donations.

Odom was a great hire. Who cares if he was in house or a former player?

Now is not the time to be hiring a hoops coach for several reasons. None of which MR can control.

We're not going to be winning in basketball next year. We all know that deep down. We're marking time until the magical basketball coach fairy drops a coach in our laps.

What do you think it says on his resume from his time at Houston? I've got $5 it says "oversaw increase in donations of $X and successfully led building project of $Y. Increased fan support including increased attendance of Z for football and A for basketball."

That's his job.

Retaining TJ was a C- move.
Hiring Odom was a B move.
Retaining KA after year 2 was a C- move.
Handling of the protest was a C move.
Fundraising I don't know enough about but it seems other than softball, facility improvements has either been put on the back burner or he's doing a poor job of bragging about them.

Don't thinks he's had any other coaching decisions of note.

I wasn't implying that BBall was going to start winning. More that when both BBall and football are down, fan support & donations drop.

He needs to restore fan confidence in the university first and the AD second. He needs to be proactively marketing the university and AD as part of that.

He needs to be casting a public vision for what he sees MU athletics looking like down the road. Why should I be excited about it? Where are we headed?

I haven't heard any of that.

Then you aren't making a very compelling case. If you are insinuating that the old, white, rich donors cut back donations because they don't like the cut of Mack's jib well...

There's always factors which positively and negatively influence your job performance. But you are what your performance is over the long haul. I'm not arguing we have a definitive answer to MR's performance and ability. I'm arguing early results aren't encouraging.
