Mizzou Ranked #3 in Dual and #5 for Tourney

LINK

Tigers have a good chance of having wrestlers ranked in the top five of their weight classes headed into the national tournament (125, 133, 141, 149, 157, 165, 184 and 197). If we finish that way and also get qualifiers at 174 and Hwt then we will without a doubt be in national title contention.

Four weights will be the difference between Top 8 contender and Top 3 title hunters...they also happen to be the freshman/newcomers/redshirts. Will denote with ***

125:#6 Barlow McGhee: fair ranking. Couple super frosh are below him, and he can beat a couple of the few above. Keeping his weight under control will be a must, but he can and probably should AA.

***133:#11 Jaydin Eierman:Fair ranking for a frosh. Top 3 at this weight is a meat grinder. Lots of talent, just have to see if he can put it all together against legit AA competition. High hopes for this kid right out of the gate.

141: #8 Matt Manley: Manley continues to get lots of bad luck. Probably would have AA'd last year, but injures is knee. Now 141 is the toughest weight in the country. #8 might be too high. Getting on the podium will be difficult.

149: #3 Lavion Mayes: Can Mayes knock off Zain? This is a pretty common question in the wrestling world. Zain (Retherford) has already run through everyone else. Mayes will have to beat Sorenson of Iowa, but he might be the only one at 149 who is a threat to Zain, maybe.

***157: #11 Joey Lavallee: How much improvement did Joey have in his redshirt year? Is he still the R12 guy from a few years ago, or has he added to his arsenal. 157 is pretty weak, so if he has improved, this could be a spot that can pick up major points.

165: #3 Daniel Lewis: We thought 165 would clear out, instead it became the most top-loaded weight. Stay in the Top 4 should be Lewis' goal for the year...and rack up pins.

****174: UR Dylan Wisman: Can Wisman hang with the big boys? He has some impressive results from his redshirt year...but that isn't pressurized. Look for him to launch up to the 'teens in the rankings early in the season...but how high can he go?

184: #7 Willie Miklus: Willie can beat anyone, and lose to anyone. He's 2for2 in AA'ing at nationals..but that could be luck. Needs to be a bastion of consistency for this team. Pretty tough weight this year too.

197: #1 J'den: You know what it is...just needs to up his bonus points.

****285: UR Austin Myers: The transfer from West Virginia has alot of accolades from HS..but at 220... Can he hang with the big boys, literally, and figuratively. We got basically nothing out of Heavy last season, so a borderline qualifier would be a big improvement.

Always enjoy reading your takes on this. Man I can't wait for wrestling to start. I never would have thought I'd say that just 5 years ago.
