I just knew him through Coach Gary Pinkel [former Missouri coach]. He and I got to know each other and become pretty good friends, through the head coaching thing. He actually gave me a call and said, 'It looks like Kul might not get retained. You ought to talk to him.

I never got the impression that Kul was interested in being on Odom's staff and was told that he and Odom communicated via grad assistants.

Good grief, how childish. One of the two (Kul?), or both, need to grow up.

That Pinkel allowed it is an embarrassment.

On why Kuligowski has never been a defensive coordinator, given his success as a position coach…

"It's probably still a very real possibility one day. He has tremendous value as he is, and he's helping Manny coordinate, I can tell you that."

I would say professionalism and the ability to communicate with others might be two reasons.

Shipp is a great coach and I don't think the line will be any worse than it would have been under Kul's watch. Per CFBstats.com which goes back to 2008, Shipp's line helped generate over 400 TFLs during the 4 years prior to Stoops hiring his little brother to scheme the defense.

In 3 seasons at ASU his line helped generate 310 TFLs.

I think the media is grossly underrating the staff that Odom put together.

I find it interesting that Pinkel didn't make calls to get Kul a D Coord. promotion, even at a smaller program. And despite the fact that Richt didn't have a D. Cood., he never considered Kul.

I'm not denying that he was a great DL coach for Mizzou, but the word is out that he is not DC material. I think we will find that Shipp is more than an adequate replacement. In fact overall, I like the new staff a bit more than the old staff. I believe we will see more flexibility and ingenuity with this staff because of their experience outside of Mizzou.

Kul is a great teacher of technique, not a strategist that a DC needs to be. Pinkel knew it, Odom knew it and Richt knows it.

Pinkel did us a favor by calling Richt and helping Kul go to miami. He's out of the SEC and has a mostly different recruiting footprint. (The only DL we have from FL is Spencer Williams)
