We gave Zo a 1.1M pool for assistants, and the Illini gave Underwood 800k.
Interesting...

I think Underwood gets 850k just for the 3 assistants.
Martin gets a total of 1.1 million for 3 assistants, and strength coach and 2 admins

Well we started the recent craze, better up the ante here too.

yep. if u r going to spend 20 mil on a coach you better give him enough to hire who he wants

Illinois had the biggest assistant salary pool in the B1G. 850K for in court assistants and another 550K for other basketball specific staff.
If it's a bidding war for Walker Illinois can outbid Mizzou.

I'm sure you are right, but at the same time, if we are going to throw that kind of money at Martin, don't cheapskate our way out of Walker if that's someone we feel we really need. Atleast be competitive with Illinois.

I believe our asst pool is the second highest in the SEC behind Kentucky

If Illinois is going to pay $400k to an assistant for a shot at a couple of kids, let them do it. It would be around double what he was making a couple years ago.
I know it would be great to land either Smith or the ESL center. But you can't go around hiring assistants for individual recruits as part of your main strategy.

That's fine and all, but is it enough to lure Walker here? If Mizzou feels Walker is a must, then make if happen financially. This is not the time to half arse it if Walker is high on our agenda....just sayin'

If Walker is not a must in Mizzou's (or Martins eyes) then I agree with ya, but if he is...

Walker isn't worth 400k as an assistant. He has good relationships is STL. So would be worth 200K.
Martin and Webster also have good relationships in the area, so Mizzou wouldn't have to overpay to that extent to get a good coach.

I gotcha, understand. I just want Mizzou to take care of biz with this basketball program after the mess we experienced. I have to keep telling myself that Martin is a huge factor in recruiting not only in Stl, but the midwest and beyond.
My nuts have been caved in after repeated kicks over the years, I don't think it can take much more.

Don't count on that... (regarding Illinois can outbid MU)

So let's say we somehow pull off MP JR., Jontay, Tilmon and Smith. Do you let CJ Roberts walk? I would guess so. Think I'd prefer Smith anyways, but still need to have some attrition within current roster. Would APR come into play?

No. I'd prioritize a top 150 guy who was committed to us all along. I trust CCM has communicated honestly with Robert's family through this process. If there's a chance his offer isn't commitable, I'd guess they've been told.
I'd encourage the kid from Utah to find a school better suited for his talents. And he might not be the last person to have that conversation with.

problem with that is he was redshirted, so hes not gonna sit out another year.
Im keeping Roberts.
Giest, CVL and walton, in that order are my 1st to be told to take a hike.
You gotta keep smith or nikko. As, Tilmon and JP may be gone in 2 years.

Walker is a coach.
If you can somehow pull off MPJ, Jontay, Tilmon, Smith and Roberts then you make it work.
That means we would need to process two guys. Your APR point is a good one, but I'd have to say we could find a way to take all of those guys if they wanted to come.
