Long shot, but....
If any of y'all fine folks are planning on making the trip down here for the WORLD CHAMPION KANSAS CITY ROYALS vs. the texas rangers at the Alamodome on Mar. 18/19, hit me up and we'll break bread!
I'll be there in my Royals gear

Damn! Wifey's moving down here from MO that weekend, too. Could have been a Royal shindig if big league weekend were 7 days later
Enjoy your cruise, KCM0!

BTW to anyone else who might be making the trip, I met Tbird at a Mizzou basketball game last year, he's a good dude

Had no idea the Alamodome had hosted MLB games before. How is the atmosphere there? Didn't the Spurs play there for a long time?

Spurs played there for most of the 90s and up until the 2002-2003 NBA season. Never got the opportunity to attend a game of theirs at the Dome, though. Been to the Alamodome several times for football games--place can get pretty raucous because of the acoustics, but it really depends on the fanbases in attendance.
MLB is something new for me--I was surprised as hell when I started hearing advertisements for the Royals in SA Should be fun, though. Postgame concerts are gonna be held after each game, too.

Won't be making the trip but have fun. Sounds like good entertainment.
I am still surprised San Antone doesn't have more major league sports. I lived in Austin for 5 years when I was younger and there are plenty of people in that area to carve out their own MLB team.

It's kind of a weird situation--people always expected/are accustomed to Dallas and Houston being the major hubs and think SA is still this small, dusty outpost Those stereotypes are hard to break.
SA/Austin would eat it up if we had our own NFL or MLB team. Mostly politicking in both sports that's blocked that from being a possibility. NFL loves to use SA as leverage all the time, which is annoying, but hopefully it'll happen one day.
If I had to guess, I'd say the next major league franchise we'd get would probably be MLS.

They could drop a stadium in San Marcos or New Braunfels and have some floating events related to the team. I miss the Guadalupe River floating!

Did the city build that dome to lure an NFL expansion team back in the '90s? Seems way too big for the Spurs. I know Texas A&M has played a few games there over the years. In 2005 the Saints played all of their home games in it after the Superdome was ripped apart. Until UTSA started up football a few years ago, I don't remember anyone else playing in it unless the minor league team there has. Are there fun things to do around the Alamodome before or after the game within walking distace?

Yup, that'd be ideal.

I haven't been in a LONG time. Fun as hell, though

Yeah, that was the intent. I'm guessing the city leaders were throwing their hat in the ring for the NFL's expansion plans in the 90s. Didn't pan out, obviously

I remember that. There were rumors of Tom Benson perhaps moving the Saints to SA, iirc. Would have been kinda weird to get a team under those circumstances, though.

There was a minor league team called the Texans that played there for like a season or two. Obviously the Spurs ended up being the primary tenants, but they've also hosted Final Fours, and the Alamo Bowl has been there for a long while. I remember going to a couple of preseason NFL games, as well.

Depends on how far you want to walk. It's right across the street from the Tower of the Americas/HemisFair Park, which has live music pretty regularly. The Tower is caddycorner to RiverCenter Mall, which is the closest main entrance to the Riverwalk.
The Pearl brewery district is a happening spot on the Riverwalk, but it's a bit of a trek to walk from the Dome. Same for the Alamo.

I AM VERY CONFUSED AS TO WHAT THIS THREAD IS ABOUT

You should come up here again when the Royals and Cardinals play, Tbird. We can meet up at The K and I'll be decked out in red.

Proud to say I got to attend at least one game at the K, at Busch, at the Edward Jones Dome, and at Arrowhead while I lived up there. Yes, I rooted for the Cards the game I attended in STL. Aggie pitcher Michael Wacha was starting
If I am ever back up that way, I'll let y'all know for sure!

I had forgotten, in 2005 the Saints played a couple of their home games at Tiger Stadium, but the rest at the Alamodome. Yeah, I recall a few rumors of them moving too.
Actually, those circumstances in a twisted way are how Oklahoma City got an NBA team. After the hurricane that year the Hornets played in Oklahoma City for a few years. After they went back I guess the owners were impressed with the arena and fans, so the Supersonics moved there not long after.
Does the Missions or whatever the AAA team is play in that dome? It is interesting that the Rams dome was deemed "too obsolete", yet the NCAA has no problem having Final Fours and bowl games at the Alamodome, which is just as old.
Sounds like there is some good entertainment spots outside close enough to the dome. I like a nice atmosphere like that like Busch Stadium has. We went down that way for a vacation when I was a youngster. Nice down there in December.

That's exactly how it went down

I forget where the Missions play, but pretty sure it's not the dome.
And yeah, that "reasoning" is kind of the politicking I was talking about earlier. No good reason for the Rams to leave STL or for the NFL to shun SA, except that the dudes who hold the purse strings just have their personal druthers one way or the other. It's pretty silly if you ask me, but really I just wish I was holding the purse strings myself

Definitely a good getaway for the winter months. What passes for "cold" down here is temperate by MO standards I did develop a thicker hide while living up there, though. I'll still be in short sleeves when the south Texans around me have long since reached for their coats and jackets.
