That seems like a really weird hire to me. Of the guys on the defensive side he seems like he'd be one of the last choices, or if you're Mizzou, the one you feel you can afford to lose the most. I almost don't even mind it if he goes, just going off the top of my head. Allow Odom to see who he can bring in. Give us an early look into what we have with Odom while not losing someone as pivotal as say Coach Kul.

Grinch was the best recruiter on the defense, well respected nationally.

Odom coached safety's here before so gives Mizzou flexibility in finding Grinchs replacement

Maybe not that kind of flexibility. Phillips is an offensive coach.

really? wasn't he the guy whose a Pinkel relative and only real work experience was with Christensen at Wyoming?

That hire never made that much sense for a team heading into the SEC, I hope he does well at WashSt but Odom should have a chance to bring in a top level guy for that job.

Grinch did a fantastic job recruiting last year.

Landed Ross and Brown and held off late pushes from Georgia (and Bama for Ross) to do so. Also signed Thomas Wilson who played as a true freshman for us.

Pretty much smashed the nepotism rhetoric.

Here is a chance to go outside the GP coaches and make a splash for this level.

Odom from all reports is taking LB coach along with DCord. Regardless if you throw Safety coach on top, position needs to be filled.

agree,, Henson was something of an "SEC guy" and has turned out to be one of the better Pinkel hires, not so sure about the WR coach from Tenn, the best thing GP can do now is hand the keys of the D over to Odom with full autonomy.

If we are looking for a guy with Mizzou ties DeMontie Cross may be the guy. He is currently the LB coach at TCU. Solid recruiter, mentioned as a possibility 3 years ago when Grinch was hired.

It makes me knowing that we had no room to even offer a guy like Orgeron. Yesterday he takes a job at LSU, today we have an open position.

I would have thrown a truck load of cash at him in the position coach range and told him to go get them. Regardless of his HC resume he can recruit and even his time as HC at USCw wasnt even close to terrible.

I heard maybe Zook is available.

but if hiring an ex-HC is good enough for Saban, maybe Pinkel should take a queue from him, ah well, Odom is already on the staff, gonna be his call.

Maybe if you just give him the title as safeties coach but don't let him coach. For recruiting, absolutely

Pretty strong words from an NFL Head Coach.

Knowing his family a bit I'm bummed to see him go but obviously it's a huge promotion for him. As someone said earlier, with the way he recruited he smashed that whole nepotism thing pretty quickly. The Pinkel Coaching Tree grows....

This probably helps Mizzou in the long run. Coaches can now see Mizzou as a way to advance their career. Stec, Odom, Grinch, & Christensen all advanced while learning from GP.

He certainly made some inroads into Georgia, though I wonder how much of that had to do with the Missouri guy coaching high school down there. It seems to have dried up a bit since he left. It's no slight to Grinch, but if it's someone from defense, I still think I prefer it to be Grinch. Ford I guess otherwise, but we can't afford to lose him currently with the apparent relationships he's developed in STL and ESL.
