Have heard the name Corey Tate thrown out there. An alum, HC at a JC, coaches Tatum and Cook's AAU team.
Thoughts, other candidates?

Fulford was a hire out of nowhere. I'm anticipating this to be another that we wouldn't have been expecting.

Someone who has coached at this level before. That's my preference. I assume Fulford will become lead recruiter.

I'd be fine with Kimmie English. Would throw a wrinkle into the coaching staff. Being able to relate to young kids in this environment might actually help with recruitment. He is young enough that kids might remember who he actually is.

I like Kim and agree he could bring some youth to the staff but what qualifies him to be a coach? Serious question

I would love to have Tate for two reasons. A.) It would ensure a hand in the St. Louis AAU pipeline. B.) It will give our coaching staff some diversity that will hopefully further our reach to certain recruits.
Fuller was a solid recruiter, but he is certainly replaceable.

He has about as much credibility as any AAU coach, which people seem to be fine with. I'd be concerned if it was for the Head Coaching position, but this is an assistant job. He has been to the NCAA tournament in D1. He obviously has an immense understanding of the X's and O's. The only thing he doesn't possess is experience.
There are plenty of examples of coaches who succeeded in D1 without "experience"

He's not ready yet to be an assistant at Mizzou yet. He would be good in a support staff/grad assistant role. Or an assistant at a mid-major

I actually like Anthony Grant as well. He was a great assistant for Billy Donovan at Florida. Wouldn't mind dishing out the cash to hire him as an assistant. If Kim Anderson doesn't succeed, give him a shot. Grant can coach man, though he struggled at Bama.

Tate or Tatum. Tate can help recruit JC and teach X's and O's. Tatum can recruit STL and KC and of course we have a chance with his son.
A good friend of mine son goes to CBC high school in STL. His son does not play BB but is a pro baseball prospect and knows everyone on the team. My friend said his son's friends on the basketball team love coach Tatum and he really pushes the X's and O's of the game. Seems like he wants his players to play the game the right way. We need influences like that on the coaching staff

I'm not a fan of hiring an AAU coach. AAU is below HS IMO. I'm not in favor of signing a coach for recruiting a particular area or recruit. Fulford is an exception due to the nature of Huntington Prep. He has already been in on the national recruiting game vs Oak Hill etc.
Kim Anderson is already the X's and O's guy.
Personally, I think we need an assistant who can relate to players and shows emotion. That plays alot with kids in todays world.
KA likely won't be able to relate to the social media environment we live in. Have to get somebody who can do that (assuming fulford takes over recruiter spot).
I'd love someone like Grant, but I don't see it happening. Just hope we get someone good.

The more I hear about Tatum the more I like him. I think soon a college team will come in and hire him.
If Mizzou were to hire him it would have to about what he brings as a coach not about getting his son, who would only be here a year.

I personally think he offers both. I think he's a legit coach but having just hired a high school coach, I don't know if I'd want another high school coach on the staff. Personally, I would have hired Tatum over Fulford, and I like Fulford. I just hope Fulford pays off long term. We've already seen that his relationships with Bryant and the Arky commit weren't strong enough to get them to Mizzou.

Depends on what you're talking about. If you're talking about influence over these kids, AAU is light years above HS.

Those guys don't do that 99% of the time anyways. It is someone on the staff that handles all the social media.

I like Grant. Just be ready to replace him in a year or two when he leaves for another HC job. I think he ends up elsewhere anyways.

Can KA hire someone now? Or does he have to wait until Rhoades is officially here?

Employment law says that Mizzou has to announce the opening and have it open for a week.
The curators actually approve of all these type of contracts, so I assume that KA or Alden could present the assistant job and contract to them.

Ok,I worded my question poorly. I know about having to announcement. But, do you think KA has been asked to hold off on any hires until Rhoades gets here?
I thought about it and I doubt it. I'm sure Rhoades is in the loop in any discussions regardless.

AAU is most of the time based around individual play and development. I'm not a fan because it is typically "every man for himself" getting noticed.
Kobe Bryant has been in opposition to AAU basketball, and I agree on a lot of fronts. Kids can dribble between the legs and behind the back but can't set a screen or make a chest pass.
So in that respect, I hold the AAU circuit below HS.
