Like NN put it. We'd know exactly how good, or not Haley is.

I think he's well worth a shot.

Anyone hearing anything new?

Q and A with Odom:

How close are you on a defensive line coach?

"I talked to a handful of guys and I don't want to rush into it. I've got to make the right hire and again I want the right fit for a staff. More importantly I want the right fit for our kids. Here in the next few days I'll probably have a guy in place, but I also learned last year, you get a guy in place and get off a plane and go into a home visit, turn on your phone and find out that you lost him. Anyway, I'm probably going to take a little more time with it to make sure I get the right fit."

He's kept it quiet..... Haley is the only name, that's been floated around... Was his visit to MIZZOU ever confirmed?

One way to hold onto these DL commits, is to hire a D-Line coach.

Brick Haley would be an outstanding addition. He has some deep recruiting ties in Texas

But can he coach? If not I don't care if he has deep recruiting ties to ISIS (it's partially a joke so don't freak out).

Oh yeah, can he coach?

LSU fans don't think he can. Texas fans love him.

IDK. He's gotten some pretty damn good jobs though

Strong was great as a DC at both USCe and Florida.
He was also really good at Louisville.

I think Strong would be great at USF when Taggart leaves. His recruiting ties that built Louisville are all in Florida.

Agreed. Texas DL was great in both of his seasons and he has some strong recruiting ties in TX and LA.

I love this hire, especially from a recruiting aspect. He not only has the obvious LA/TX ties, but he's got ties all over the south. I'm looking at all of the guys he's gotten, it's a hell of a list. Big-time recruits. Sam Montgomery (SC), Ego Ferguson (VA), Kwon Alexander (AL), Davon Godchaux (LA), Danielle Hunter (AL) are just a handful of guys Haley's scooped up.

But let's be realistic. None of those guys I mentioned (except Godchaux) played to their fullest potential. Now that could be various different issues, including the overall culture that the HC of those programs sets. But I already have more faith in this guy than I did when we hired Shipp.

I agree. If I had to look for a downside it's that he doesn't seem to stay any one place for long. Regardless, I'm excited about the hire.

Most assistants move around, what GP did is definitely not the norm.

Haley comes to Missouri from Texas where he was the defensive line coach with the Longhorns the past two seasons. In 2016, Texas’ defense led in the Big 12 in sacks (3.42 per game) and tackles for loss (7.6 per game), and ranked 5th and 16th nationally in those categories, respectively

He's told the story a bunch. There's video from the Longhorn Network with him telling it.

Aying football as a kid he made a diving catch. His head hit the side/corner of a house. Broke part of the brick.
