I know the numbers to keep him seem too much, but that's just the way baseball is going because of the huge profits from TV. There is some salary relief in 2 yrs from the Holliday contract, so Heyward wouldn't cripple us. I know he's not lighting it up, but he seems to be settling in.

My vote is sign him...other opinions?

Who else is available?

Doesn't seem like there are many options. Better to have one of the best defensive players at the position, with a mediocre offense. Than a player that is only ok at both offense & defense.

I like him, plus the Cards payroll will be higher because of the extra money coming in off of TV starting next year.

Plus I like him for his speed and Defense, the .284 with 18 HR and 66 rbis (on pace for) given his HELL HOLE of a start to the season is a bonus.

Birds do have a LOT of money to spend. Don't be fooled, they've been skating by for a few years now. They've also signed some great contracts...Yadi, Waino, Carp. Garcia comes off the books as well.

His offense has shown signs of life lately. He's never going to be the big bopper some predicted him to be his rookie season. Having said that, I think he still has and above average bat. Outstanding defense. Outstanding baserunning. I'd sign him. They have the money.

I think he's pissing in your thread because the thread isn't Mizzou related but is Cardinals related.

It's great the guy is hitting .290

He may end up with 15-18 hrs.

That's really nice.

But he's just not going to be a 3 or 4 hitter, he's not going to be a big time masher.

I'd rather be more selective with who I give 20+ million to.

We have Grichuk and Piscotty. Holliday. And there will be other options.

I bet they're going to aggressively try to sign him. So, all of you that want him to stay may get your wish.

The trade made no sense. Our rare abundance of young starting pitching should have been flipped for a player with more years of control. No matter how good Heyward is, the trade makes no sense.

At $15 million per? Sorry, no sale.

$10 million or less per? Maybe.

Heyward will get between $16-18 million a year. I bet the Cardinals resign him for something like 7 years, $120 million.

He would still only be 32 when his contract expired.
