Best BBQ in Kansas City + Kauffman Stadium

Hello all. I may find myself in Kansas City for a short trip. I will only have a chance to get out and eat BBQ once so I thought I would check with you guys/gals.
Where should I go? Joe's Kansas City BBQ seems to be the popular choice judging from Google searches but I thought it had a chance of falling into an overrated trap so I wanted to check with the locals.
Second question...any recommendations for Kauffman Stadium? Going to see a game there just not sure if there is any section I should try to sit in.

Gates, (Oklahoma) Joe's, Jack Stack, Smokehouse, Arthur Bryant's
Those are the best IMO. Personal favorite is Oklahoma Joes. Z Man is really popular (although not for me)

Tailgating. The K & Arrowhead (Share same lot) are kind of secluded, but tailgating is very popular. Since the Royals were so bad for so long, KC has really embraced tailgating.
Alcohol laws are among the best in the country. No open container, public drunkenness, or sale restrictions. So go wild and get piss drunk. Just be gracious and fans will treat you well with plenty of brews.
The K has plenty of good seats. HyVee upper deck is cheap. Not sure what you are looking for, but you can't go wrong really.

I generally just buy a ticket and use the MLB ballpark app to upgrade if I want to. I was just wondering if there was a section in the stadium that is particularly cool.
I guess I will walk around just drinking in a parking lot . I will just be by myself.
Thanks for the recs.

There will be someone tailgating right next to you, and probably won't mind you hanging out with them. Or just walk around meeting people. People here are usually pretty friendly to out of towners. If you're just going for one game and have no allegiances to either team playing, I'd get the cheapest ticket and float around during the game, spending an inning or two in various different places throughout the stadium. The craft and draft section is pretty cool and has a large selection of beers. Be warned, beer out there is not cheap. Hope you have a good time.
Edit: If I had to recommend one place for BBQ, I'd probably recommend Jack Stack.

In my opinion you are right about the "overrated trap" with Joe's. Joe's is definitely great, but I think it's overrated as a result of the Johnson County people pimping the shite out of its reputation since it is primarily located in more affluent suburban areas. I could also be biased because it's a kansas chain, but "suburbs" and good barbecue seems like an oxymoron to me.
If you want the real Kansas City, urban, authentic barbecue that we're famous for, I'd go for Arthur Bryant's, Gates, or Fiorella Jack Stack which are the 3 most iconic chains in KC. Other great BBQ can be had at B.B.'s or LC's.
HOWEVER, the hottest barbecue in the city right now is the new kid on the block, Q39. It's FANTASTIC. It may not be a classic KC icon but most rankings and publications already have it at #1 in the city for best BBQ.
If I were choosing my top 2, it would be Q39 and Arthur Bryant's (original location). I strongly advise you to go to one of those 2....I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
As far as Kauffman Stadium goes, get there early for the tailgating. Whether the team is good or bad, tailgating has always been a strong point. You'll have no problem finding a tailgate, or several, that will welcome you in. Like some said earlier, just get a cheap ticket for the game and walk around to various places. The Craft and Draft bar is a nice place with tons of beer selections, and the outfield plaza has the Royals hall of fame, Pepsi party porch, Bud Light party deck, and Miller Lite fountain bar as well. The Royals game atmosphere is basically more of a social event, rather than a "sit in your seat the entire time and watch the game" kind of atmosphere.
Enjoy your trip

This. Was in town 2 years ago for job interview in Olathe, KS but had this both days I was there. Went to the Olathe and KCK locations and loved it.

Love Arthur Bryant's. But only go to the original restaurant. Skip the other locations, I had a bad experience.

My favorite is Jack Stack.

My current number one for BBQ in KC is LC's. But I haven't tried the Q39 place people are raving about.

Charbar >>>> Q39. It's the most overrated BBQ joint in KC.

At the kan-arse speedway location. I forget exactly what I ordered? I know it was pork. I usually get brunt ends, pulled pork or ribs. It was coldish and just NOT fresh bbq. My guess is that the meat was cooked at the main store and trucked to this location day(s) before? Fries were crap that day too.
My wife had turkey and she was not impressed.
But I've been to the old shop dozens of times and they are a home run every single time.

I ate at the one downtown once. Took an hour just to get through the front door.

Had the same experience last October at that location. Burnt ends were cold, fatty, and not tender at all. Wife got pulled pork, which was forgettable.

Pappy's or Bogarts are the best in the state. If you have to eat near KC then it's Joe's.
