That really hurts. Might have to either win at least 1 against LSU or sweep UK.

Dear God, Mizzou loses 8-5 to SEMO. These mid-week games against mid-major schools are absolutely killing us. If we get swept by LSU this weekend I have to believe we're likely missing the tournament.

You'll be fine. We've lost to be MIssouri State and SEMO as well this season and are safely in the tournament.

Yup, we are fricking ourselves in these midweek games.

Think we're in though barring a total collapse.

Hope you're right. The problem isn't just MoState and SEMO. It's been UALR, UAPine Bluff, AirForce and so on. I hope you're right. I'm not so confident. We have 6 left. I don't see 0-6 or 1-5 getting us in. 2-4 will cut it close. I'd breathe easier at 3-3.

A&M got in last year at 14-16 but they had 36 total wins. 28-27 just won't do it. I think they have to get to 30 wins to make it.

Our RPI is falling rapidly. I think most likely we will miss the tournament unfortunately. The midweek flops are just unforgivable and will cost this team dearly.

You might be right. They have got to win some games. I'd absolutely love to get 1 against LSU this weekend.

20 losses at this point...and 14-10 in SEC. Jamie is being looked at closely. Is this season good enough for another year? Can anyone else hear the new AD scratching names into his "Potential MU Baseball Coaches" list??

I think there's no doubt. Make a run in the tourney and he's back another year. Don't make it and we're probably looking at a new coach. Win/Win IMO.

Still projected to be in as a 3 seed in the Illinois region with #2 Bradley and #4 Stony Brook. I'd really like our chances here. Frankly, should have beaten Illinois with Miles throwing. Illinois is senior laden, which is a good thing, but not ultra talented IMO.

Cheshire seems to think we're easily in and he's always solid. I don't think it's that easy. We have 6 games left. 3 at LSU. 3 at home against UK. I think without a doubt we have to get to 28 wins. I think we have to win the series against UK. I think we have to sneak one more game on top of that, whether it's winning just 1 against LSU or sweeping UK.

Our RPI has taken a beating. Think we're in the mid 50's now. Need to get it up into the low 40's or upper 30's. Winning only 2 against UK I don't think is enough. I'd really feel comfortable going 3-3.

The unknown for me is the pull of the SEC. 1-5 or 2-4 may very well be enough because of being in the SEC. That would probably still keep us in the top 8-10 in the SEC.

The other thing to take into consideration that I really didn't is the SEC tourney. If the standings were to finish as they are now, we'd face Bama in game 1 who we already beat this year, taking 2 of 3. Win that, you get A&M. So that could get ya 1 more win and who knows in 1 game against A&M.

Just took a closer look at the standings. The top 3 have obviously separated themselves. After that, you have:

UF(15-9): @Vandy and Auburn
Arky(14-10): UT and @UGA
MU(14-10): @LSU and UK

No way we catch Arky. They have the 2 teams that won't even qualify for the SEC tourney. They potentially could sweep both series, but won't do worse than 4-2. So then there's UF. We hold the tie breaker against them having won that series. The remaining match ups are similar to what Mizzou faces. If we can somehow pick up 1 game on them, that would slide us into the 5 seed.

Can anyone catch us from behind? There's a bit of a drop off to:

Auburn(12-12): Bama and @UF
UK(11-12): UGA and @MU

I don't think Auburn can steal a seed in the SEC tourney from us. Would be difficult at this point, especially having a rival weekend and then UF on the road. UK might have a better chance since they potentially could sweep UGA and then having it within their own control by playing MU. To leap us though, that's what they'd have to do, sweep and then win our series. Not likely.

If we slide to the 5th seed, we'd get the 12 seed, which right now is MSU but could end up being Bama who has a tougher last 5 games. The bigger advantage is that if you win that, you get Arky, who's obviously solid (and I mean it with no disrespect Cheshire) but there is little question IMO that if you can avoid Vandy, LSU and A&M, you avoid them.

So I'll be a Vandy and Auburn fan the next 2 weekends in addition to a Mizzou fan.

Also, I see no way that we don't get in if we finish in the top 8 of the SEC regardless of the record, which pretty much requires going 0-6.

That in a nutshell is the answer.

Missouri State doesn't really hurt though. They are actually pretty damn good.

Here's the link from the rant for a preview of the series. Astro typically does a pretty good job.

Just be wary of reading the rest of the thread, likely to be many in-jokes between the baseball regulars.

Thanks for that. Got confused for a second because I thought it was MizzouAstro, who's a quality poster primarily from TB and occasionally over here.
