This years team should be half decent.

Missouri is a hotbed for baseball talent, playing in the SEC and some slight improvements to the facilities should start showing results.

I also think Jamieson is finally feeling some pressure, which is a good thing.

Think he was just going through the motions for awhile there.

This incoming class should be pretty damn solid.

If Rash can turn into the pitcher we and the Phillies thought he'd be when we recruited him and the Phillies drafted him in the 2nd round, we could have some outstanding arms.

Rash - When he has his control and is healthy, is outstanding.

Houck - Has been outstanding and the Blue Jays made a strong push to sign him.

De Oca - Possibly the guy with the most potential upside, though also might be most likely to crash and burn. Threw in the mid to upper 90's in high school, but it cost him a surgery. He gets a lot of K's but being a Cards fan, I'd almost like to see him pitch to contact more.

Benes - If Mizzou has been missing anything, it's guys that can hit. Benes could flat out hit in high school. Hopefully it carries over.

Howard - Played quite a bit as a true freshman and came on towards the end of the season. Had a solid fall outing as well. I look for him to add another one of those sorely missed bats.

Ring - If he can ever find a way to get on base, will be an outstanding lead off hitter. The game just didn't slow down for him as a freshman.

I'm thinking we should be better this year. Hopeing we finish between the 8-10 spots in the SEC.

I at least want to make the SEC tourney this year.

To finish 8-10 I think would require not missing on any of those pieces.

Ya, 8th is probably pushin it a bit. Might be a little bit more realistic to achieve 10th.

Now that I think about it, the league might be a little better overall this year than last. so, probably gonna miss the SEC tourney.

and zeke elliot just scored in the title game. I like the way that kid runs.

Hopefully with the SEC network we will get to see more Mizzou baseball, which should increase fan interest/support. I'm probably a bigger baseball fan than football fan, but it's much easier to follow college football due to exposure. I wish both baseball and wrestling had better exposure.

I agree and hope so too KC. You have to go out of your way to even get results of games much less watch/listen to a game. One would think they could get one game on from every school at least every other weekend.

Missouri is a hotbed of talent. Too bad it all goes to Missouri State. Can't wait for Jamison to be fired. It is embarrassing being 2nd best in the state. Jamison has neglected the West side of the state. Missouri State has had 3 of the best pitching prospects in the state in the past 5 years. Petree (sp?) was national player of the year. Burgess out of Webb City has some mean stuff.

Petree is doing well in the Cards organization.

I don't think you can complain about the job Mizzou has done in the past with pitchers. That hasn't really been our downfall. It's the approach at the plate and defense.

Missouri State has definitely owned the west side of the state. TJ has relied way too heavily on the east side. Some incredible ball and probably the best ball at the high school level is currently being played in the KC area IMO. STL still may have as many quality players, but there are just so damn many club teams in STL that it's watered down.

A school that I would love to see Mizzou get some kids from is Pittsburg (ks) Colgan. A few Missouri teams play them every year, and they just dominate. Small Catholic private school, but they have won something like 10 state championships in the past 11 years or something. Incredible plate discipline.

Anybody have an update/thoughts on Peter Fairbanks? I went to HS with him but don't follow mizzou baseball.

Preview of SEC teams
quote:

Recruiting has improved for the Tigers, as their 2014 class was seen as a top-35 class and pitcher Bryce Montes de Oca, as a top-60 recruit coming out of high school, is the type of player that they need to bring in. Freshman Tanner Houck, with a fastball that runs into the mid-90s, is also an arm that will compete in the league right away. But the reality is that they need several more of those types of guys to really get where they want to be.

Reedus, will there be a way to watch the games outside of MUTigers.com this year? Over half the games were audio only last year and I wouldnt mind to start following the program because I really do love baseball.

I'll see if there isn't a tv schedule somewhere. I'd imagine some of them will be on either on the sec network on tv and maybe even more online. I see no reason why every game can't be online even if it's just the radio voices going over the broadcast. Just turn a camera on and hit go. I'll see what I can find.

I don't think they've announced the TV schedule yet, the best I can tell. My bet is we see more games than in years past but less games than most other teams.

For those that aren't familiar, PerfectGame is kind of the equivalent of Rivals or 247 for baseball. Probably would have to be a hardcore baseball fan, but does anyone have a premium subscription? They have their Top 100 College Freshmen listing. They give a teaser showing the top 10, of which:

8 Bryce Montes de Oca RHP Missouri

That's a pretty big deal. I'd bet that Tanner Houck and maybe even the Benes kid made the top 100 but I can't access it.

did Oca get drafted? I wish my son had Mizzou at the top of his list, but he really wants to pitch for LSU, Mizzou is #2 though. I did see the Mizzou recruiting class was rated #13, pretty damn good.

Where did you see #13? I saw #31.

Yepp, like in the 12th or 14th round. He probably would have been a top 5 round pick, really highly regarded, but had arm surgery that kept him off the mound for all but the last week or two of his senior year. Think he pitched in 1 or 2 rehab games where they really limited his pitch count before the draft occurred. The White Sox were still going to go way over slot with him (slot was only $10,000 but I think he was being offered 6 figures).

Unfortunate for de Oca, but fortunate for Mizzou.

Houck may be a better actual pitcher but maybe not as much raw potential.
