Read and React. A scheme 1 DL described as a "bumass" scheme

Except that virtually every NFL runs it so there is that.

Yes they do, they also draft players and use free agency. They practice more and play with mature adults who have filled out their bodies.

Do you really think Shane Ray, Markus Golden, Aldon smith could hold their gaps on the edge and take on a pulling guard? In the NFL R&R OLB's look like T-Sizzle. You wouldn't make Von Miller or Khalil Mack play R&R. Mizzou recruited for pass rushing DE/OLB as do many colleges because it's easier to spot a kid with a quick first step i.e. Charles Harris. All of a sudden trying to make them Terrell Suggs is not going to work.

So you have to recruit the bigger, athletic kids. That puts us in direct competition with Bama, LSU, FSU and so on, because a large body recruit that can move are few and far between and are automatically 4 and 5 star kids.

In the LSU game you see LB's having to take on pulling guards to maintain their gaps. Again they have to be bigger. LSU used a converted DE at MLB. So how do we recruit larger LB's with good mobility when all the SEC West schools get their picks.

The genius of the old defense is it could be successful with the kids Mizzou was capable of recruiting along with the occasional home grown 5 star like Richardson or TBJ. The new system requires damn good recruiting. As of now, there are ZERO DE/DL committed and only 2 LB's and only 1 of them over 6 feet.
