A recruiting perspective: Did we get out of the B12 at the right time?

With the rise of TCU and Baylor, creating 4 sustainably good programs in the state of Texas, did we get out at the right time?

During our Texas recruiting heyday TCU was in the WAC, and Baylor was a cakewalk.

TCU, a Dallas area school, is obvs now a power 5 team with improved facilities and prime location. Baylor has a new stadium, great coach, and an identity forever changed.

The experts all thought we'd suffer from a recruiting standpoint moving to the SEC -- but they may have overlooked the fact that the landscape was changing in Texas.

We wouldn't be getting these kids from the southeast if we were still in the B12, and there's some decent reasons to believe we wouldn't have been able to keep up our recruiting trends in Texas.

Just a random thought. Boredom. Lady pal not here.

We seem to be renewing our efforts in Texas this year. May not be smart. Who knows.

We should still be able to get a guy or a few here and there.

Won't be able to build classes through Texas anymore.

I think it was more just odd luck that we didn't get one Texas recruit last year.

It had really tailed off since moving, but I think that can be mainly attributed to devoting more resources to GA/FL.

I thought we were too quick to pull out of there, but understand you only have so much in the way of time and resources.

To your original point though. I think we could have still had success even with the profile of Baylor/TCU at an all time high. Many of our best Texas players were of the diamond in the rough variety. I do think the SEC move was obviously beneficial to our program though and we'll only see that continue going forward.

I think recruiting will return to the Lone Star State. Last year was an anomaly.

I agree. It was an anomaly to get zero Texas recruits.

But, I don't believe we'll ever build a class around Texas again.

Do you think we'll return to the days of grabbing 10 plus out of Texas? Even 5-7+?

I do. I think the staff just made a conscious effort to establish Georgia and Florida for the transition. I read somewhere that the staff has already been very heavy in Texas for next years recruiting.

I'd make a bet, involving blood, that we don't ever get a big haul out of Texas again. We may get a few, even a handful in one class, but not like before, we won't have a roster with a Texas core again.

We'll see, I guess.

It also goes both ways a bit. The big recruits in TX are going to go to TU and A&M. Maybe Mizzou recruiting more in the SE and less emphasis on Texas means that those kids we would have gotten from the second tier are now going to head to TCU and Baylor at a higher rate.

In fact, lets just claim that the only reason those two teams are good is because we let them have our potential players...

There's quantifiable evidence for the other way around.

New facilities for both. New conference for tcu. Heisman winner.

According to ESPN, Mizzou has already offered 22 Texas kids for 2016. 2 of them are committed to Baylor, and one to Arizona.

Sort of. Just saying that the staff has obviously made Texas a priority this cycle. Not that ESPN is the best at recruiting stuff, but it is a vantage point.

l'm sure they'd love to get a bunch of good players from Texas, just like I'm sure they'd love to and are working with the intention of winning a national championship. Doesn't mean it'll happen.

They can toss around offers in Texas, make the effort to recruit, but they're not gonna get players in bunches like they used to from that state.

My angle is looking at why -- the sec move obvs, but I'm thinking the rise of TCU and Baylor are having a real impact on it too.

We hold very different opinions, and that is ok.

It isn't a coincidence that we leave and take our resources more to the southeast, and THEN TCU and Baylor get better.

Our presence is missed. Not to worry, we're devoting more resources again down there. We're coming back for more kids, and we'll get 'em.

I don't think we'll get back to the days of double digit commits from Texas like 2008 and 2006 but we'll get more than the 0 and 2 of 2015 and 2014.

I would have to say TCU going from the little leagues to the big leagues had more to do with their rise, paired with improved facilities, than our departure. But that's just physical evidence speaking.

Baylor had a Heisman winner, and a gorgeous new stadium built. They have a great coach, like TCU. Their rise is on them. Not us.

I'm sure it is a little. I'm sure that our departure to the SEC has created a little more opportunity for other schools to get guys we might have gotten.

Which is what?

That Baylor and TCU got really good because Mizzou went to the SEC.

And that Mizzou will get back to hauling 7-10 kids a year from Texas.

I've never been more confident in disagreeing with someone.

Mizzou got out at the right time.

Since they're not making huge inroads in GA/FLA, they're going to have to cobble together a little from here and a little from there with Missouri and Illinois being the base.

I agree with Jesus that they abandoned ship in Texas too soon. Hopefully the retrenching there is successful.
