Let's Make Mizzou Basketball Mildly Entertaining Again.

I think Sterk breaks the bank and gets a real coach.

I listened to Gabe's chat last night, and he said from what he could gather that Sterk was aiming higher for this job than many would expect.

He also did his typical "Mizzou fans are dumb, this isnt a good job, and nobody would want it" song and dance

Ill give Sterk the benefit of the doubt here. Either way, KA will be gone so Ill at least be hopeful again.

I wonder what most fans do think the MU job ranks?

I believe a lot of the fan base feels B-ball has tradition thanks to the long running stability of the Norm years, and the fact B-ball helped MU fans stay sane from late Onofrio years to Pinkel.

I think many overvalue that tradition, but there is a substantial run of solid basketball at a high competitive level through those years.

I think fans would come back quickly if MU put out a team with a legitimate shot to finish 2nd or 3rd in the SEC and go to the dance regularly, while building towards a team to make a run at UK every few years.

Is that the goal for all the decent basketball programs in the SEC?

Mizzou in both Football and Basketball should be a Top 25 team every year. They should in the hunt for a natty every 5-10 yrs

Personally I think basketball should be ranked or in the top 35 every year, with a chance of a deep run every 3-4 years.

football should be t40 every single year with a ranked team every 2-3 years.

There are 3 SEC schools that are better, Kentucky, Florida, Arkansas.

Mizzou does need to invest not just in a coach. Mizzou basketball expenditures are about 4 million behind where it needs to be.

Also maybe do some serious reworking of the compliance staff.

I agree with this

I wouldn't say Arky is better than us historically speaking even though they have a natty. The natty does give them the best bragging point tho.

We have saved enough money on not paying KA much. Time for Sterk to go get that coach. He needs 4 million to play with. Not saying go throw 4 million out to anyone. Just saying here is 3 million and we have a million dollar kicker in the other pocket. Then next year come back and get more money to help build this culture to where it needs to be.

I doubt Mizzou was actually saving much money on KA. The fact that Mizzou has been non competitive has resulted in lost revenue.

This thread brings up an interesting consideration: If Sterk wants to go after someone really big, would the last three seasons offer more motivation for some big donors to throw enough wads of cash at it? Timing could be right.

I think the last three years make it a little more expensive for someone to come to Mizzou.

Whether there's enough cheddar in the alumni pot is another question.
