No reason not to formally sign Graves even if he's a sure sign and place.

We may not have the scholly for 2017. Without OVing, getting an official offer, he could blueshirt.

We are limited to 25 LOIs for 2017. We currently have 23, but not sure if all are for 2017. Apparently 3 offers are out there, not including Graves. They might want to see how those other 3 pan out before offering.

EDIT: Blueshirt (for 2018 schollie) is basically the same as being a member of the 2017 class, except he can't enroll in summer classes on MU's dime. The blueshirt would be a full-ride upon enrollment, counting towards the 2018 class.

I don't believe we've ever used this tactic, but other SEC schools have.

Still the biggest problem is can Graves get into MU academically.

It's going to be a multiple front one gap scheme. Odom has stated that and Haley hasn't coached 2 gap techniques at any of his previous stops.

There is a reason. That signing would take up 1 of the 25 allowed signings for that year.

This could also be why Malik Young hasn't been signed. If he has outstanding academic issues, they might be telling him to get that in order, then we sign you.

Man....I hate losing Graves, because he plays violent and destroys anybody in his way.I'm beginning to wonder if most Missouri kids dislike Mizzou and especially the ones I want.

Hill doesn't lose many guys from his side of the state and lost two in one cycle. Haley being hired late probably factored into Graves looking elsewhere, too. The coaches are doing more position specific recruiting and Graves didn't get shown enough love.

Graves will sign with Missouri in 2019 if he can meet academic requirements.

Not that he's a be-all or end-all, but 101 ESPN's Randy Karraker just said he's asked around on "why not Mizzou?" and it's coming back as backlash / concerns over the campus unrest of year-and-a-half ago.

I hope it's not true, but there's no doubt it's left a bruise on the whole institution.

What did we offer 5-6 instate kids?

This year's instate class sucked. It's that simple.

Of course we are facing other coaches negative recruiting the shite out of us.

I just read an article from early January that DeBose isn't announcing until Feb 3rd. I'd think they are still working on him.

LINK /

Per 247 they offered 6 instate players. Missing out on Hayes still stings.

edit: read somewhere else that Odom has stated that no more additions will be made.

That's 6 DTs. Depth was a serious issue though. Pretty much count on all of the HS kids redshirting now (possibly Utsey as well)...which is a good thing.

I'd expect all of them to redshirt except Kobie Whiteside. It sounds like the staff thinks he can contribute immediately.

Cross today said count on Whiteside playing this year. Compared him to Mason from last recruiting class.

I think several others could play.

Only ones I would feel good saying 100% will redshirt right now are Powell, Sampson, and Christopherson.

You'd think all the OL will redshirt, and they almost certainly will, but I could see one or two getting some work as a backup. Simms and Castillo both had redshirts burned a year ago for depth. We're in a much less dire situation on the line than we were a year ago, but still, someone could grab a spot. Perhaps there's someone the staff wants to get ready to take over at left tackle a year from now, for example.

Davis plays a position without a huge immediate need, but he's also our highest-rated recruit. He could earn time. I could see Clark possibly earning a spot as a returner. Johnson was very good there last year ... when he held onto the ball. If Clark can replicate the big-play potential while being a safer option, maybe he gets a look.

We have no established starters at corner, so I consider all the freshmen fair game there. And although we have a lot of experience at safety, no one has solidified a starting job. Open competition at all defensive back spots IMO. And those guys could also make an impact on special teams even if they're not on the depth.

Likewise for the linebackers. No reason a freshman can't come in and take one of those spots IMO.

Running backs will probably redshirt, but we don't have anything behind Crockett, Witter and Strong. All it takes is an injury or two before depth is a problem.

I'd bet on no more than a few playing, but pretty much nothing would surprise me. Who would've guessed a year ago that Dimetrios Mason would be among our best freshmen?

I know he said that, but you TBJ and Logan as your starters...then you just signed 3 JUCOs.

Would seem we'd be in a good position to RS him and save a year of eligibility.
