Earl Austin Jr. on some of the guys he watched this summer. For those that don't know, he's a SLU guy (does their radio) but really was talked into that in recent years. Has always been a big follower of STL hoops. Problem is, he almost gives too much info and you have to sift through the guys going to SIUE, Illinois State and so forth. But pretty safe to say, if there's a player coming through STL, he's talked about them in there some where.

The guys at RMN say the staff plan to take 3 players this cycle. 2 bigs & a wing.

Be interesting to know how they ranked Sneed compared to other wings that they are recruiting.

So we are NOT in Xavier Sneed's final 5. So much for Corey Tate locking up the St. Louis guys.

Update from RMN on recruiting. Touches on Sneed & Cook. And others.

One thing that stands out to me from the article, other wings that the staff has supposedly prioritized over Sneed don't have offers. Doesn't seem like the staff really plans on taking a wing. Perhaps sneed told them that they were out. Don't know.

Without trolling, here is my concern.

The staff passes on an in state guy, who is talented regardless of what everyone says, who probably could have been gotten in order to pursue others at the same position who they may like more. The in state kid then moves on and Mizzou can't land the other kids they liked more at that position for whatever reason. The net result is that we end up with nothing or digging way deep into the barrel. It just seems to fly in the face of KA's talk about recruiting kids they have a connection to or can reasonably land. Unless these other guys are just heads and shoulders better, it just doesn't seem to make any sense.

The other alternative is that they're not going to take a wing at all as you said. Who knows. It just seems to defy conventional wisdom and all.

If they lose out on Cook now at this point, I look for this class to be worse than the incoming one.

I think we look back and change our opinion on the current class.
Phillips & Woods probably both start. Payne & Walton both will probably be key rotation players. CVL & KP both have skills capable of being productive.

Mizzou rarely recruits the kind of freshmen that come in and dominate from the start. Look at English & Denmons class. Took a couple of years.

The real problem is that there is only 1 veteran on this team that's been productive. Last year there were none. Mizzou recruits need a chance to grow into prominent roles historically.

Also offers a JUCO from STL Arlando Cook a 6'8" PF.

I doubt Phillips starts this year.

With us offering another PF, that can' bode well for us landing Cook. The only reason we brought in Tate was to land these Eagles kids and we may get none. It's mind boggling.

I will when they show me. Going into it, on paper, this class doesn't impress me. Though, I do like Phillips and I may learn to like Walton. CVL and KP are role players and my guess is will always be just that. And that's not a knock. Mizzou needs role players.

Woods and Payne???? Hope they do better than Post. Doubt they do as well as Brown or Clarkson or Ross or Oriakhi or Ratliffe. Hope they end up better than all of them.

I go back an forth on whether he will start, but I will say that he gets solid PT regardless. I think we see Clark move to the 2 almost exclusively.

I agree. I don't want people to compare Tate to Fulford though. Fulford has national connections that have already gotten us some players. (although Teki left obivously).

Well if you're comparing Woods and Payne to the like of Cardo, Clarkson, & Brown. Then yes the class isn't great.

Perhaps our expectations are different. I look at them and expect them to get Mizzou back to being a winning program. Get to NCAA by the time they are done should be the goal for Payne & Woods.

Cook (juco) was a region MVP got to be a solid offer.

The 2007 Mizzou football team was led by a class that ranked 47th nationally.

WSU teams haven't really been highly rated recruits. Starting to get them now, but you need some winning usually to get highly rated kids.

Fair enough. I do suspect that they'll get Mizzou to winning seasons and maybe a tournament appearance before they're done at Mizzou. I think within Payne and Woods 2 years might be a bit optimistic, but hopefully not out of the question. But certainly by the time the freshmen class gets done they should make the tourney.

The word rolling around is that Walton has been better than they thought. This will be a team effort, because some of the players interviewed are saying that there isn't one player that will take over games by themselves.

Coaches have said that in a couple different interviews about Walton.

Jenkins 4* wing from Florida got an offer. Coaches had been more on him than Sneed lately.

As I said, what I hope doesn't happen:

The in state kid then moves on and Mizzou can't land the other kids they liked more at that position for whatever reason.
