Texas A&M Aggies vs Missouri Tigers

Saturday, November 30, 6:45 PM (CT)
Memorial Stadium at Faurot Field, Columbia, Missouri
ESPN: Brent Musberger and Kirk Herbstreit with the call.

The Good, The Bad, and The Prize

Gary Pinkel is one win away from matching the win total of the man who's statue is parked in front of the stadium. Micheal Sam is two sacks away from taking the single season MU record from Aldon Smith. Eighteen seniors including team leader L'Damien Washington will make their final stand at Faurot, you know the emotional senior wide-out will make it count. An elite defensive front is ready to hunt down the games most elusive player. The Tigers three headed rushing attack is primed to exploit a poor Aggie run defense. Mizzou is 4.5 point favorites. The Good

The reigning Heisman Trophy winner, the most dynamic player in college football, the villain of all things good and beautiful, the king of razzle-dazzle, ankle breaker extroidanare, pac-man champion of the world Johnny Manziel is coming to town and he's bringing his Mike Evans led posse. The Bad

The 2013 SEC Eastern Division championship and a trip to Atlanta. Oh.. and a boat load of respect. The Prize

Don't Tease Me Bro

If Mizzou gets in position to put this game away, they must do it. The Tigers have flirted with opponents all year. Dominating and controlling the essential parts of the game, even taking substantial leads only to let teams work their way back into games.

The Tigers asserted themselves early versus Indiana but failed to put a finishing move on the Hoosiers, allowing it to remain a game into the final quarter.

Vanderbilt was knocked to the ground with three quick blows, but the fight went into the 4th.

Georgia was on the ropes at halftime, but got within two points in the 4th quarter.

Florida was even allowed to hang around.

After sending the Kentucky faithful to the exits at halftime, Wildcat fans enjoyed the thrills of a 3rd quarter comeback on the ride home.

Mizzou owned Oxford from the moment the first Tiger Tail pulled into the Grove, but the rope-a-dope routine allowed it to remain a game until the end.

Tennesse is the only conference opponent to not raise Truman's whiskers in the second half. A few catches instead of dropped passes and the Vols may have joined the club.

Mizzou will need to show a killer instinct versus a dangerous Aggie offense. Manziel is a wild card. He's capable of doing anything at any time on the football field. Even if he's having a bad day and his offense is sputtering, he's gifted enough to pull anything out of his hat at anytime. No more teasing. If Mizzou has a chance to end a reeling Aggies team, they must deliver the finishing blow or risk suffering the same fate as the Night of Shawshank .

Game Notes

The Aggies will need to score points. And they'll have to do it against a Mizzou team with capable anti-Johnny weaponry. The Tigers defensive front has earned their elite reputation, and they'll need every bit of it to contain an equally elite player. Containing Johnny will be the key. Mizzou's elite pass rushers will have to stay within themselves and not over pursue. LSU was able to go man to man, greatly reducing the risk of a defensive breakdown during Johnnys scrambling episodes. Does Mizzou have the skill in the secondary to do the same? Probably not, at least not all game, but look for the Tigers to mix in some man to man to counter the impromptu ways of Manziel.

Why will the Aggies have to score points? Because they've given up 30+ to every single SEC opponent besides Vandy, who put up 24. Even Rice was able to crack the 30 n' up club.

Why is their defense so bad? They can't stop the run. Especially up the gut. Only one player in the current front seven had more than three stars coming out of high school or junior college.

Is their anything good about the Aggie defense? Surprisingly, yes. The secondary. A unit that has been competitive at times, capable of creating turnovers. The group is probably better than the numbers indicate, likely suffering some blowback from the inept front seven.

Will Mizzou slow it down to keep Johnny off the field, or will they try to speed bag a broken defense and hope for the best? LSU was able to own the clock in their defeat over the Aggies last weekend. Perhaps Mizzou will lean on their potent running game, while exploiting their opponents greatest weakness, all the while doing a very intelligent thing -- owning the clock. If you're a Mizzou fan the words "we do what we do" just went through your head, and you're likely not ready to wager anything on Mizzou slow playing this game, you'd be wise to not make that bet. However, we did witness a run heavy game at Ole Miss last weekend, the same should be expected this week.

Disclaimer: All game notes, all stats, all predictions can be thrown out the window by Johnny Manziel doing Johnny Football things. Then again this is a magical year for Mizzou, it's beyond good results. There seems to be something special driving this team. That something special is the genuine passion this Mizzou team has to earn respect for the program, the genuine selfless nature of each individual on the team, and the unmatched leadership. Can the super human powers of one man and a few sidekicks defeat a complete team on a mission? Likely no. Go Tigers.

One of the most anticipated previews of the year. And it did not disappoint. Well done Rodeo.

Any early word on injuries for either team coming out of last weekend? I think I heard Mizzou is healthy other than Singleton, who is questionable and probably won't play.

Crap, yeah I was thinking about that and forgot to add it.

Singleton is the only one I've seen, as well.

Where did you hear singleton won't play ? That's a big loss I'm afraid he makes our D even faster and bolsters the secondary.

Rock M said Singleton was questionable, leaning toward unlikely.

It was reported Pinkel said it as well in his presser. I think one even went so far as to report it as he won't play. So pretty much what Rodeo said.

Good preview Rodeo, I have no idea on a score and anything could happen. I am not sure it is good the JFF was off last week. Will he be contained back to back weeks? I think Mizzou will win but no clue on how.

Yeah, hard to like the odds of him being off 2 weeks in a row.

Got to wonder if that shoulder is a a little weaker than normal, though.. he got the shot right after the injury happened. Maybe his continued use with an injury that he couldn't feel because of the cortisone is catching up to him. Looked to have a little less zip last week, maybe that was just my biased eyes though..

Thanks for the analysis. I noticed that LSU stopped JFF by having D-linemen keep their lanes and not try a hard rush most of the time, yet steadily collapse the pocket to get pressure. Last week Steck had Missouri do the same, possibly as a nod to Bo Wallace's running ability, but more likely to work on the discipline needed for the A&M game.

IMO, when teams don't lose contain on Manziel, he doesn't wreak as much havoc and is more likely to put the ball in harm's way, throwing INTs to better prepared defenses.

Another interesting matchup will be the physical play of Mike Evans and the referees. There isn't a receiver in the league who commits offensive PI more than he does. Will the refs call it? Will the refs let it go both ways? If they call it or if they allow even play on both sides, advantage to Missouri.

I see us having the advantage in a number of areas, such as motivation for the game, home field and better balance on both sides of the ball. But as everyone knows, Manziel is the wild-card. Will he play balls out like we expect, is he too banged up to be as much of a force, or will he protect his banged-up body as he gets to the end of his college days and prepares for the NFL draft?

I don't see any way Mizzou loses big. We either have a close game that goes either way, or we have a decisive win. This Mizzou team seems locked and loaded, and I suspect we win this game by 10 or more, and have a great day running the ball.

I'm not sure that they would deliberatly have an in game practice for Johnny during a competitive Ole Miss game, but I imagine you're right that their Qb's running abilities played into why they had that game plan. Hopefully it will help them be prepared for Saturday.

Haha, yeah.. I couldn't really believe what that guy was getting away with last week. I hope that doesn't continue. Hopefully the presence of our crowd and the meaningfulness of the game put the referees in the proper frame of mind.

Yeah it's interesting because he's a wild-card to begin with, now throw in some more variables about his health and motivation… going to be interesting to see how it unfolds.

My gut feels good about this game. To steal a saying from the grand puhba of missouri posters.

I probably didn't say this in the most eloquent way. I believe that the staff saw a need to improve lane discipline, knew it would be needed for the Ole Miss game and especially the A&M game. This is technique they probably have preached all year, but have emphasized it especially lately.

I wonder if this had something to do with the sacks being cut down.. we had lots of pressure but no sacks until late in the Ole Miss game. I wonder if there was more of an emphasis on containing than busting through recklessly. I don't really know much about this stuff.. so I could be sounding ridiculous.

Yeah, this is generally a no troll zone. I think it helps that there are so many enemies from other teams on the main rant page. People come here and embrace the idea that we're all on the same team. (Most of the time it works that way, I think).

Explain how Vandy, FLA & KY were in the games? Vandy NEVER stopped our offense, FLA has no offense and KY kept giving us short fields.

We will win this game BIG.

I don't know if he's saying they were in the game as in threatening to win it. But in typical Pinkel fashion, we allowed them to stick around a little bit closer than we could have. We did the same thing against SC but it bit us in the arse. I'd agree, it's a dangerous game to play with A&M with as fast as JFF is capable of scoring. DO NOT TAKE THE FOOT OFF THE GAS!!!! That is the message for this game IMO.
