What are we looking for against Troy

What are we looking for in the game vs Troy this weekend? Here are my thoughts:
1. We need to control the game, get up early and get a lot of folks reps. Hopefully we can get the backup QBs reps starting somewhere in the 3rd Quarter
2. Figure out the RB rotation. Hopefully a RB will step up and get meaningful reps. Shump may be a great dude, and could be a FB or something, but at this point it doesn't look like he is the answer at RB.
3. The defense needs to start strong. I understand that Diaz uses the first quarter to see what the opposing offense is doing, but we can't keep spotting teams lots of points early.
4. The offensive playcalling has to get into a better rhythm. We seem all over the place in calls/execution.
What do ya'll think?

My thoughts? We see everything you just mentioned. Everyone will see exactly what they want to see.
Next SEC game? We see none of it.

Peters needs to get a lot of reps.
Aeris needs to get a lot of reps.

Start finding our RB....get him reps. Stay healthy.

I was going to say false hope just like with NW St., but this covers it too.

That's exactly what we will see. True read options, a few pitch options, slot wr screens, etc. Things that make our offense go.
It will all disappear the next week.

I dont want to see a single fumble. NOT A SINGLE FREAKIN FUMBLE! Clean that SHITE UP! I want to see recievers and running backs carry the ball in the right hand and protect it.
If we dont start doing this we will be getting this all year long. BOTTOM LINE!

Hard to get fundamentals like ball carrying and solid tackling corrected in-season at this stage, I'm afraid. Will probably take an old-school spring training and fall camp before that happens. I just hope it happens, because we have a lot of youth and need to get back to the basics to build for the future.

I agree,Ding. I just want to see good fundamentals. Ball carrying, tackling and not taking the wrong angles to the ball. I really feel like this has been the bane of our year. I cant sit here like a couch coach and say I know all about schemes and all that but I know a good angle and tackle when I see them. We just need that mental "STRAIN" to get it done.

When will Muffin not be scared of the big game?

Good question. I would have thought with Dak being a Sr. this would be the year.

LSU, A&M and Auburn were all big games at the time they were played last year.

Bama was even bigger.

And with the first 3, we were trying to prove something. I think it was more of a chip on our shoulder mentality than confidence. In the Bama game we looked timid and have ever since against quality opponents, except for early on against A&M.
I'm not so sure against A&M Mullen wasn't afraid we'd get run out of the stadium early on. Once the defense settled in and the game tightened up, so did the play calling.

Not everything is on the coaches. Quite a few of our players had deer in the headlights looks on their faces at Bama. By the time they realized they could play with Bama we had a too big of a hill to climb.

Eh...I don't know if I blame Mullen for the Bama game. Dak had a bad game, and the safety by Josh Robinson was really stupid.

Do yall think Williams is the answer at RB or that Dear could be moved from WR to RB? I think shump could be useful in a 2 back system like the philadelphia eagles sometimes run, but unfortunately that's not part of our offense as far as i know. basically, i'm not sold on any one RB on the roster being in and being dependable. the dak show continues

Looking back at the Bama game, I suppose I was wrong to criticize the play calling. Given the mistakes our guys were making and the fact we were in such a hole in terms of field position, had he been more aggressive, we could have gotten blown out early. All that said, we were still in position to get the ball in our hand with a chance to take the lead in the 4th quarter had we been able to get a 3rd down stop on defense. With our guys having never been in that position (#1 on the road against a top 5 team), I think you have to be happy with that scenario every time.
Unfortunately, reliving this game has been painful, and I have to excuse myself to go throw up.
