If the narrative was Ray didn't get effort out of talented players, then I could see a big year one difference but it looked like Ray got great effort, they just aren't that talented.

The narrative was that he didn't coach them fundamentals. Or at least they didn't show. Which is worse than them not hustling. I've seen lazy State teams win 20 games, you can't do that turning the ball over and being incapable of making an inbound pass.

And he didn't adjust. If our second half play was up to par with the first, in even half the games, we would have won at least 5 more games this season. I said mid way that this team could win games if they were well coached, the players weren't the biggest part of the problem.

Brandon Sampson is supposed to be visiting next week now.

Former St. Johns commit from Baton Rouge. Will add to OP.

Not that crazy about him. Obviously would take him, but think I'd be more comfortable with IJ in the lineup.

Anyone catch any of the McD AA game last night. Newman was pretty meh in the little bit that I watched. I see where he finished 0 for 7 in the game. I saw him travel on one trip and then he hit the backboard on a shot from around the FT line on the next. The East picked up full court for the game, and he couldn't wait to get rid of it against the pressure.

Howland told him to downplay his abilities until he gets to regular season play.

I don't put too much stock in those all star games. Those things are all about ME ME ME.

I tried to watch it but it was horrible basketball.

Agreed, you are lucky to see one pass on an offensive possession before someone jacks up a shot.

The narrative was Ray just didn't know how to coach. For the last three years the team would go through stretches of 8-9-10 minutes without scoring. I'm not a basketball coach but I recognized this fact on multiple occasions. No matter how much you defend or play hard, you still have to score the basketball. You have to make in-game adjustments and be able to draw up a play in the huddle to get your team an easy basket when they are struggling to score. Neither of which Ray was capable of.

I was not a Rick Ray fan after last year but perhaps it is time to just say "bless his heart, he did the best he could" instead of trying to drive home his inadequacies.

I have no doubt he did the best he could have and gave maximum effort.

Thanks coach Ray

Yes, thanks, Coach Ray. You turned our program from something no one wanted to a place where a good coach wanted to be.

Well looks like Tookie is out per his twitter. Could actually be a good thing. Maybe Howland told him something the rest of us dont know.
