Does anyone know if we have this? Most professional teams have people hired to do nothing but number crunch tendencies and statistics but I have never heard of a collegiate program doing it. However, I'm sure some do.
It seems like we have a lot of already present resources, like the Industrial Engineering department, that would be perfect for this. Just curious if anyone who posts works for the university or knows if we have people to do this or not.
If one of you happens to be an IE or stats professor, I think you know what your GA's should be doing now.

I agree, moneyball is bullshite.
If the stat profs want to aim their top students somewhere they need to steer them toward Fan Duel. The money makers on there use customized algorithms.

Man, there is absolutely no arguing that statistics gives you a competitive advantage in sports. Why would you not want to know absolutely everything about you and your opponent? I'm not talking about moneyball but more of knowing that you tend to call a certain type of play, in a given situation, 70% of the time and being able to adjust accordingly.
There is a reason every NBA team has an analytics team and it isn't because Barkley's dumb arse is right.

I think analytics are strictly an off the field process that uses numbers to back up what should already be common sense.
shite may be you are on to something. Do you think Mullen would have rethought all those QB dives if he had known that they had such pitiful success rate? The answer is, of course he knew, of course he did it anyways because there was some rhyme and reason to it at the time.
I dunno, maybe he doesn't have an analytical brain, I know I sure do because I was shitting bricks the entire time. May be we do need that department, but there is no way that any fancy analytics can override the thoughts of a coach on the field or up in the booth.

This was my exact thought when I saw this come up. Maybe engie is y'all's analytics department, he's just not on the books.
