QBs?

This is purely hypothetical since we don't know if Cord will make it to campus this fall, but I was doing some thinking/speculating about our QB situation going forward. In the signing day press conference, it sounded like Mullen had resigned to Cord playing both sports if he comes to MSU. If that is the case, do y'all think he would still redshirt, since he would likely go pro in baseball in three years? However, Cord is last reported as saying that if he decided to come to state, he would likely choose to play only football because he understands how rigorous it is going to be trying to learn the offense and develop into an SEC QB, and that he would only be able to do his best by devoting time to just football.
With that said, I think he redshirts unless Tyler or Dak gets injured. Now, what I am curious about is the 2014 season and beyond. Dak will be a RJR and Cord and Damien will be RFR. Do y'all think it is a given that Dak will start in 2014 since he has more experience, or do you think that Cord will push him for the starting position? No matter what, the competition will be good for them, and hopefully that will push them to work even harder. My only hope is that Mullen plays the person that is the best at the position and not be averse to making changes like he was this year.

Baseball and football eligibility are wholly separate things.
Cord could go pro in yr 3 in baseball and still play 5 years of football for us if he set it up to do that...
We need a terminology change on "if he makes it to campus." He's going to be on campus when the draft happens -- and he would have been here for 6 weeks by the time of the signing deadline.
Cord is going to come in on an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT PLANET development-wise in our offense. The learning curve won't be there like it has been for our previous QBs. He runs OUR(Meyer's) offense in highschool with the same terminology(was literally taught by Meyer to his coaches). He's going to know what's going on with everything on DAY 1. That's not to say that he will be 100% ready to start or anything, but he's going to know what's going on to a MUCH greater extent than anyone before him.
I've had a good bit of info on Cord, and it's a VERY GOOD chance we retain him this summer. He's looking for first round money and he's a 3rd-4th round pick. As such, he's likely to fall further in the draft due to projected unsignability.

I have heard this as well, minus the connections, lol

Well that's just not even close to being true, engie.

Cord is very talented- but he will redshirt in football unless Russell or Prescott gets a major injury. shite, we redshirted Russell when all we had was Relf and Tyson Lee.
Dak is going to be the guy in 2014. You are probably going to see an expanded role for him in 2013 with it looking like Mullen is going to be more hands on offensively.
We just have to do it the way it should be done and see where things fall with Sandberg. There are no guarantees 2-3 years down the road.

No need to. There isn't a high school quarterback in the country that would have even close to that much of the offense down on day 1.

Is that why multiple freshmen excel across college every year?
Cord is coming in 1.5+ years ahead of where Dak and Tyler came in -- in his knowledge of running the offense, terminology, goals, development, competition faced, etc.
Nowhere did I say that I expect him to play early. I said I expect him to be FAR MORE READY COMING IN. That's prettymuch common sense.
Did he run his highschool offense successfully? If it's the SAME OFFENSE as our(which it obviously is), what in the world makes you think he can't run ours?
