Interesting article from when La-Tech hired him. Impressive resume, here are the highlights.

- Took our defense, that ranked from the 60's to 90's in most categories in 2009, to the 20th ranked defense in 2010.
- Had the top ranked defense in the conference his first year at Texas, 11th nationally in total D.
- Allowed only 200 passing YPG in 2012 in the Big 12, which had 5 of the top 10 passing offenses. In the same year they led the conference in sacks and TFL. Huge because our passing defense is currently awful.
- Took Tech from the 63rd ranked defense to the 23rd in one season.
- His defenses are consistently ranked near the top in Sacks.

I think this is a done deal. I had heard weeks ago that Mullen would interview someone in Miami and bring them back to Starkville with him. I did not realize until I read this that Manny is from Miami. Regardless, I'm happy with this hire.

Diaz is a solid hire. I was hoping for Shannon, but I am fine with it.

We know what we're getting.

We didn't want him gone when he left.

We know he and Mullen can communicate well.

suits me.

Yeah I feel like the only bad game we had defensively in 2010 was against Arkansas. Everyone gave up a lot to them while Petrino was there though.

I think he's a stronger LB coach than Collins too. He has produced big time LB's at State and Texas. Get your panties wet thinking about what he can do with the talent we have in the stables at LB right now.

I think the defense next year will probably blow...but who knows. Maybe his defense can create some turnovers that can be the difference in a game or two.

We should be able to put up enough points.

I don't see any possible way it's worse than it was this year. We gave up 30+ points to A&M, LSU, Ole Miss, Tech, Kentucky, and UAB. The ability to tighten up against the obvious run inside the 20's was the only thing that kept this defense from falling on it's face sooner than it did.

He has plenty to work with, D Line is still stacked with talent, we have 2 great LB's in our starting slots next year and our 2 best corners returning. The only question mark is safety and we've recruited very well there this year.

Me either. Dak Prescott was our best defense.. We had a QB put up astronomical numbers and should've ran away with more games than we did.

Just have to hope the o-line doesn't blow. Losing Robinson will hurt a bit...but I think we have some decent backups.

Our receivers should be the best we've ever seen at MSU, so maybe that'll help with any possible new RB woes we may have.

Shumpert will be good as long as he doesn't develop Perkinsons.

Auburn probably drops 35+ on us if we hadn't gotten a few turnovers. Outside of the Vandy game and 3 quarters vs LSU our defense was nothing special.

Defense stepped up vs Arkansas. I will give them that.

ETA: Defense also played well enough to beat Alabama. Offense let us down in that game.

Well, it's hard to let Arkansas beat you in the seam when they don't have a receiver that runs under a 4.8.

Played well against Bama, but again, the only thing you have to do is defend Coop. We caved on defense in the 4th when the game was on the line, letting Sims scramble all over the place. That game is the first sign we showed of poor tackling and it got worse after that IMO.

We couldn't cover Hunter Henry in the Arkansas game. Drove me nuts.

While at tx, they had great players sign on defense. What years exactly was he responsible for? I was thinking while there they had the 6th, 11th, 67th ranked defenses.

What I don't get is how it could get to 67 with the talent on that defense.

Well, he only coached a few games that year. He was essentially the scape goat for Mack Brown, fired him early and then we saw that really Mack had just lost his program.

Well, if that is the case, be glad you got him. He now has ties within tx, and he seriously pulled some big names in those classes. One year out of the 6 or 7 five stars, over half was his. #2&3 de... #2 olb&mlb.

my only issue is our secondary. we were stacked during his first tour and I'm terrified to think of our current group in the aggressive style Diaz likes.
