Next season to keep his job. (I'm assuming we win 3 to 4 this year)

I wasn't upset about the game last night. It is pretty clear that we are in a rebuilding phase. We have pieces, but we have some pretty significant issues with a lack of experience.

We probably win that game if Fitz doesn't trip on the turf monster. BYU is a pretty good team, and we played them to a draw on their turf. Most pundits around the country are giving MSU credit for the effort. Many MSU fans are not.

The rest of the season is going to be like a long spring campaign. We need to identify who is going to play. We need to let those people gain experience. We can be pretty good in 2017 if we just don't let things fall apart this year.

From a fan POV, it would be nice to see us improve this year whether we win games or not. If Fitz gets better and Williams runs better and the young receivers make more plays and the line learns to run block, we can go into 2017 with a pretty positive attitude.

Seeing the QB talent I really don't get why we were not going after any transfers.

I agree 100%. This year was shot to hell, from a fan's perspective, in the first game. We are rebuilding, but we need some good building blocks to do it with. We need better talent.

I agree that we are in a rebuilding year that's why I am talking about next year. Next year if we win 6 or 7 will his job be in play? I have no idea how well him and the new ad get along.

I can tell you one who has given up is Brandon Bryant. Last week vs AU he backed off a tackle and let the runner score and same type effort last night. He gives zero Fricks.

I'll try to make a positive post.

If we win 6 next year, it will mean there's been a massive improvement with every position group.

This team is a freaking mess right now, and has been defensively getting worse since week two. The d-line should be the strength, but is under regression and not getting off blocks and making many tackles. The secondary is just as lost today, as they were in fall camp. It's really hard to believe.

Fitzgerald is young, so I will cut him a little slack, but I'm concerned that he hasn't made any improvement in his short and intermediate passing game. He's our guy next year. He has the task of trying to win on the road at Ruston, Auburn, Athens, Fayetteville and College Station. Some of the home slate offerings are BYU, UMASS, Bama, and LSU.

This year the O-line just can't do it. But we better hope the new starters turn into All-Americans next year, or Mullen may have to start getting the U-haul loaded up at mid season.

Personally, I think Mullen is tired. I don't believe he thinks he can do it anymore, and I don't think he wants this burden on his back. Based on what I've seen this year, from the HC, to the team on the field, 2017 will likely tarnish his good name, and put a shitstain on his tenure at MSU.

I'd rather Dan get hired away post season, and both school and coach can shake hands and smile. Having a coach go away a winner hasn't happened in a long long time in Starkville. This would give us much needed leverage in making the next hire.

Rebuilding year my arse.

Fire Mullen, then we can rebuild. Mullen has been desperate to jump ship these last couple of years, nobody wanted him because they see what I see, now he's gonna go down with the ship.

Our "rebuild" doesn't happen until Mullen is gone.

If Dan chooses to stay, I only want him to stay if:
1. Hevesy is let go. There is no argument to be made logically for Heavy to be kept on board.
2. Get rid of Sallach. We have 3 Tight ends that have great skillsets but that skill will only get you so far if the players aren't utilized correctly. The kids must have better coaching. Give the TEs to Billy G with the WRs.
3. We get stability in our Defensive coaching staff and the performance level of the players improves each year. All our Defensive coaches are in their first year here so we'll see if Dan can retain them. You're always going to have a little turnover but the core has to stay intact along with performance improvement. Pass defense is atrocious right now but if it doesn't improve, swap these coaches out after a few years.
4. Stop referring to us as a developmental program. This creates a bad mind set for the players and bad image for the fans and football world. Dan elevated the program by getting fan support and better talent which improved our standing and expectations within the SEC. However, as everyone can see, our floor has lowered this year since we did not transition well from 2015.
I believe these changes are overdue. This could be as you say, he doesn't want to put up with it anymore. If so, move on. If not, make the changes.

I agree on all points.

I think Dan should also give up play calling privileges, but then at that point what the hell is he there for?

I wouldn't mind keeping Dan around if this were to happen. But you and I both know it won't. He's too stubborn and prideful for that. The only way this happens is if the new AD forces his hand.

That would be Croom part II. Croom was told to get a new OC. He refused. We got a new coach.

this is 4 non conference games that SHOULD be auto wins.
3-5 in the conference.

should be the floor every single year, not something to be content about

Agreed. and everyone who goes back to the tried and true, "Oh we're just this small school with no money and a historically bad record so these years we've just been lucky and we should cherish them.."blah blah blah, is such a defeatist attitude and I'm sick of it. We get that beat down dog mentality from a lot of the older crowd.

For me it's win or GTFO.

I agree. I just don't think when it falls short for the first time in a long time you fire him for one bad season when it's obvious he's rebuilding and has an entirely new defensive coaching staff. I think he knows his seat is warm.

.

Oh, I agree with you but 7 wins is not some milestone that should ever content anyone, it should be the expectation.

REPEATEDLY failing to meet this however does not justify a multi million dollar salary.

He's not getting fired. He may leave, but he won't be fired.
