STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State football returned to the familiar sights of Davis Wade Stadium Friday as the Bulldogs went through a two-hour, full contact scrimmage to mark the midway point of 2015 spring drills.
Redshirt freshmen running backs Dontavian Lee and Aeris Williams combined for 170 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Linebackers Gerri Green and J.T. Gray led the way defensively with eight tackles apiece.
“I think we got a lot of the things we needed to done,” said head coach Dan Mullen. “We’ll get a great opportunity to evaluate some players, and let guys see how they’re doing. I think what especially a lot of younger players are going to see is they do some really good things sometimes, but for us to be successful, they’ve got to do good really things all the time.”
Through the air, receivers Fred Ross and Fred Brown each went over 100 yards receiving. Brandon Holloway and Grant Harris provided highlights on a 75-yard touchdown rush and 62-yard interception return for a score, respectively.
True freshman standout Malik Dear, who enrolled in January, stood out when he broke tackles down the sideline on a 30-yard catch and run.
MSU will break for the Easter holiday before returning to practice at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday at the Seal Complex. Tuesday’s workout is the first of four next week for the Bulldogs, including 3:30 p.m. Thursday and 4 p.m. Friday. MSU will scrimmage again in Davis Wade Stadium at 11:35 a.m. Saturday.

I seem to be reading a lot of positive things about dear and fitz.

I'm hearing the most about Ross. He seems to be killing it in the slot.

I wonder if Fitz will be treated like Dak was in his first appearances. May as well take some early hits away from Dak.

How mobile is he? Wasn't able to watch the scrimmage yesterday.

Supposed to be a good runner. He was a wr in high school.

WR in HS. Moved to QB senior year where he ran the triple option and threw the ball probably fewer than 5 times a game. His athleticism isn't a question though his arm may be.
Relf came from a similar background and Mullen made that work and Fitz is faster than Relf.
