Would you be happy with Ed Orgeron?

Reports from the Baton Rouge Advocate say we are offering him 900k per year. That's some serious cheese for a coordinator.

Thoughts?

He ain't leaving LSU.

But hell yes I would give him whatever he asked for in terms of money if I were State. One of our biggest weaknesses is 'crootin and that one of his biggest strengths.

Have you all lost your fricking minds! No I don't want coach o anywhere near our program. I would like to not be the laughing stock of the sec. Just give me a x and o guy and leave the "crootin" to the assistants. We don't even have 900k! Nor would I spend it on him if we did.

I dont know if your mentaly handicapped but I have questioned it.

So we do have the money thanks to the network but,

what I am saying is why the F would you spend 900k for O to come for a year. The guy aint sticking around. We would be pissing that money away. We need somebody that is gonna come in and stay a while and give us some consistency and if they produce then pay them 900k. Yes he will stay for a year or two and may take us from the 35 ranked recruiting class to the 18-25 ranked recruiting class in a year or two. We are trying to do this legit unlike TSUN we are trying to pay coaches not players. And after he moves on then what. We are right back where we started. So all I am saying is its a waste of resources to get O for one or two years. I feel like this is just a publicity stunt. No press is bad press, any press is good press situation.
If we do go this route and it works out that he has a great DC mentality and philosophy, great! Come back on here and give me shite all day long. I just cant see this working out to our benefit in the long term.

Regardless of who we are talking about giving the money to, you said we didn't have it in the first place.

Not wanting to give it to a specific coach and not having the money to spend are two different things.

It's only a waste of money if he doesn't make our defense better. People want a good defensive coordinator that is going to stay for a while and bring consistency to our defense but then don't want to pay them.

We're never going to get what we want unless we pony up. You can't keep hiring people at a discount and hoping that stick around. They are going to go somewhere else when given the opportunity because it looks like we don't want to spend the money.

I want us to nutt up and pay someone big time money. If we keep going after little league coaches and paying little league money we are going to get little league results.

Valid. Just got a little confused/bewildered when I saw the mention of coach O and MSU in the same article. like cdawg up there WHAT?!

Totally agree with this. But not for him for a year or two, him for 5 years and a better D @ 900k/year, deal. But he goes through jobs like a incontinent person goes through underwear.

Thats why I say pay for results in my last post. If we get substantially better on D, deposit that shite Monday after the season is over and keep somebody around. Start him at 700k base and give him a 200k worth of bonus if he hits certain goals. I dont know. He is making 450k. I dont know what it would take to get him. Maybe we got that cheddar and I underestimate it.

There are ~8 coordinators making 1 Mil+.

There are probably ~3 more making 900k+.

That's offensive and defensive though.

ETA: State paying someone 900K would make a pretty big statement. Would most definitely increase interest by better coaches.

Well part of me thinks that Orgeron would be a fun hire and would improve recruiting by a great deal. The other part of me says that there is a reason no one has made this guy a DC.

I can tell my favorite Coach O story.

I was out one night in Oxford with a date. We were on the square having some drinks. Coach O is there, and he saunters over and starts talking with us. He introduces himself and then proceeds to make himself at home at the table. After a while, he holds up his empty glass and makes a circle signal to let them know to bring refills for the table. After the drinks come, he excuses himself and moves on the another group. He leaves the bar about 30 minutes later.

When I get ready to leave, they bring me my bar tab, and it has about 6 or 8 drinks on there that we didn't order. I asked what that was about, and the waitress says, "Those were Coach O's... the round he bought here and the one he bought over there. Wasn't he with you?"

And another thing people are failing to realize is we aren't paying a true OC so to speak. So we should be able to pony up for one on the defensive side of the ball.

The whole Ed O thing was a fabrication. Oddly enough, however, he and Dan are friends.
