UAB Scrimmage Notes
- UAB returns four starters off last years Sweet Sixteen team.
- MSU won going away 83-62 and that was without Malik and IJ
- Scrimmaged UAB the past two years and UAB won by double digits both times
- MSU was actually up 38 points with 6 minutes to play, UAB scored the last 14 points of the game
- Weatherspoon ran the point and had 13 points
- Sword gave Weatherspoon a rest when needed at the point and Sword had 23 points
- Ware had 15 points and 7 boards
- Fred Thomas had 11 points
- Daniels had 6 points and 7 boards
- Demetrius Houston had 7 points
- Zuppardo had 5 points
- Fallou had 4 points and 4 rebounds
- MSU's Backcourt dominated the game from start to finish

Seems like Weatherspoon has sort of been under the radar a bit due to Newman. He may end up being a great player himself though.

Definitely.
I was most surprised to read that we beat the brakes off of them without Malik and IJ after having lost the scrimmage each of the past 2 years. UAB returned 4 starters from their sweet 16 team last year.
I wonder why no one talked about the scrimmage then.

I had no idea it even happened until today.

Howland mentioned the scrimmage in his media day speech. I guess no one really paid attention because it's a closed scrimmage.
I had no idea we had been doing this the last 4 years with Ray though...

They probably didn't advertise it because we kept losing the scrimmages.

IJ isn't going to start over Craig "Chicken" Sword

Chicken is our leader and probably our best player. So i wonder how the lineup will work this season. It will be ready or thomas coming off the bench i guess but we are gonna see a lot of combos. Our backcourt is sexy.

The OP has a starting lineup and sword wasnt on it

My guess is Ready. I think Flat Top Freddy will be our starting 3 and will be our most improved player.

I agree. I also expect daniels to be very improved.

your OP. You don't even have Chicken on the roster

I think Ready starts and Fred comes off the bench but I will change it when the season starts if I need to.

So much wool. The thickness.

I don't think UAB made the Sweet 16. They were a 14 seed and upset Iowa State (3 seed). They then lost to 11th seeded UCLA. UCLA lost in the round of 16.
I do think that they have all 5 starters back plus CUSA's 6th man award winner.

PG - IJ Ready SG - Malik Newman
Malik will start at PG not Ready. This has been stated repeatedly by Howland.
