Missouri somehow always puts out high draft picks on the defensive front

No they didn’t. The recruiting services failed to recognize five star potential. If they could simply turn three stars into first rounders they should do it every season. They can’t.

It's a mixture of both, you can't tell me coaching has no bearing on a guys development and where he ends up getting drafted. People's has a history of having his guys win awards. In 8 seasons at Arky State he coached 11 all conference players. People's had a pair of DE's earn 1st team all SEC honors in 22 and 23 and it goes on and on. When you look at who he's coached and what they've done in college it's obvious why Baker pushed for him so hard.

some of his development could be coaching, but let's be real.

The recruiting services are often wrong - very wrong. 5* that are busts. 3* who are elite.

It's more due to the recruiting services being wrong several years ago.

So they didn't develop him and put him in a scheme to maximize his talent?

No doubt he had talent, but it requires the player and coaches to maximize that ability. Still a good sign for LSU.

From 247 recruiting profile. Looks like they got it spot on. He was a project, not a 5 star. Good for him that he got great coaching and had a great attitude to learn.

quote:

Tall, lean frame with long arms. Looks even leaner than his listed weight and has the potential to add much more bulk at the next level. Only picked up football as a junior in high school. Has natural athleticism, having played basketball as well. Shows the ability to close and chase down plays. Willing to play physically and gives good effort. As he has learned the game, he became more dedicated to the weight room and was voted team captain as a senior after only one year. Still very raw technically. Has to learn to use his hands more violently to shed blockers and as a taller defensive linemen, but consistently lower on his pad level. Physical size and tools make him a Power 5 prospect. Could project to strongside end or potentially move inside to tackle depending on scheme. Some schools liked him as a tight end or future offensive lineman but right now defense is the more likely projection. Relatively inexperienced so early playing time is far from a guarantee but progression from junior to senior year has him headed in the right direction. Has the potential to develop into an NFL prospect.
