Like most of you on here, I'm frustrated that we didn't complete a pass to a receiver. I too think that we will get skull drug by bama if we can't get some semblance of a passing game to receivers going. I too understand that the weakness of Ole Miss Defense was run stopping and linebackers. The passes that were completed this past weekend were to receivers covered by the Ole Miss weakest players. Kudo's to Canada for a great game plan against Ole Miss. I am curious to see what the game plan for Bama is going to be. I sure hope it includes completing some deep balls to receivers.

Last week people were complaining that too many went to WRs and we didn't look at the RBs enough.

Just looks situational to me.

This is what Canada is known for ... breaking down a defense and attacking their weakness. Refreshing strategy but he has his work cut out for him the next 2 weeks. Not sure he's going to find a lot to attack against Bama.

I think he's testing different facets of the playbook and they'll all come together against Bama.

Not an O apologist by any means...

However, I do get the sense that he believes beating Alabama is the utmost priority. I am not saying it will happen, or that we will even be close. But if I had to guess, he tasked Aranda and Canada with figuring out a way to beat these guys and they have been working on it since the spring. I am eager to see what they come up with.

Game-plan alone, unfortunately, will not be able to beat them, not this year. Defensively, we will have to be great at tackling runs between the tackles and we will have to be great at containing Hurts and forcing him to throw instead of run. Offensively, O-Line has to be special. I hope they are impressing on Etling that he cannot do his braveheart style runs when in trouble. If he does, we might be forced to see Brennan in there long before he is ready.

Bottom line: If your team gains 26 first downs, accumulates 600 yards of offense, commits no turnovers, completes 70% passing, scores 40 points, and you STILL BITCH, then you are just condemned to be a miserable bastard your entire life.

I believe beating Bama was one of the reasons Canada was hired.

Unless you have an elite dual-threat QB, the only way to beat Bama with a "traditional" offense is to have equal or better talent, especially at O-line. Which LSU most decidedly does not have for the time being.

Canada's unorthodox offense is designed to misdirect defenses and run themselves out of plays. Simply put, that's the only way LSU can hope to beat Bama this year.

There's no way in hell that they can go through Bama's defense. They have to get around them.

Hopefully Canada can just keep their linebackers honest and not running downhill every play.

With our line, i hope its a lot of quick passes and outside running at the goalline.

Our line could struggle hard this game.

Maybe they should use deer antler spray so they are on an even playing field with Bama players.

In theory, that's exactly what those jet sweeps are designed to do.

It doesn't matter if they get stopped for no gain every time. The point is that the threat is there.

Did we fricking blow them out or not? Quit your bitching and embrace the new OC.

Etling completed 9 of 13 passes. I recall Gauge dropping one in this hands also. So, that should be only 3 incompletions. I think people are making wayyy to big of a deal about this.. We simply didn't need to throw the ball much to win the game and we just ran it down their throat. Stop looking for things to cry about!

We won, that's what matters. Always complaining when we are winning, is just plain ignorant

maybe but maybe not. We must create some space in the middle to have Bama honor the middle. If we do I believe our best chance for success is the Ole Miss game plan. I don't think we will have the time or ability to throw deep

Les knew this. So do O and Canada. It is boring but the secret to beating Bama is to avoid being third and long, convert third downs, play great special teams and avoid negatives such as sacks and turnovers.

Two weeks ago we showed Bama that they need to worry about our WRs - running and catching. This week we showed them that our backs are lethal - running and catching.

For 5 years all Bama has had to prep for was a toss dive. This is better.

Yep.

I just wish we had a little stronger OL. Those sweeps would be even more killer.

Regardless, we're absolutely going to have to throw the ball downfield if we want to keep this game even respectable.

I think the defense keeps it decent until they get gassed in the second half. Half time we're down 17-0. Final 31-7.

We only had one 3-and-out the entire game. We only had 2 last week if I remember correctly.

Now the D and O are helping each other, led by the D the last two games. That's what had to happen. Now the O is doing it's part and not constantly putting D in bad positions.

My point is... we're not having to completely rely on the D. That's an improvement.

For the record: for the O to make the next step the WRs will have to continue to improve and QB will have to be changed. So not happening this year. From here it will just be better execution of what we've done so far. Unless Canada does pull a rabbit out of his hat. We've reached the personnel-capability limit for the most part. Any "great leap forward" from here on out is Canada earning paycheck + bonus.

if they caught the ball they were damn sure a receiver, they just didn't play the Wide Receiver position.

By the way, I didn't hear any bitching when the WRs out rushed the RBs (with those "won't work in the SEC" jet sweeps). Why is it such a big deal when the RBs out catch the WRs.

You know what I find hilarious....last week there was a thread bitching about Etling never throwing it to the RBs, who were wide open. People said Etling sucked and couldn't get this simple task done.

Fast forward to this week....Canada seemed to recognize this, and focused on throwing it to wide open RBs. The result was over 200 yards passing, and a easy victory.

Now, people are bitching because we didnt throw it to WRs enough.

Here's the bottom line.....Bama now has to prepare for a running game up the gut, jet sweeps coming from every player in every direction, passing to RBs and TEs, and passing to WRs (because we have shown an ability to do this when needed). Its pretty damn difficult to take away every single one of those things on a given play.
